rendering settings
Hi. What are the best settings for rendering a bluray project on 2020. My files are 25i but i can't see a setting for this. I'm using 60i but the program crashes two thirds the way through. I'm trying to produce a file to burn on a bluray disc.

Re: rendering settings
Hi John
Can you give details of your video files, are they MTS (AVCHD)
Right click a clip and choose properties, what are they?
Generally we would advise to use the same video settings assuming of course that they are BD compliant.
Frame rates, can be confusing, There is interlaced video that may show as 25fps upper field, or 50i both being the same as interlaced.
Unless showing as 25P, 50P in which case is progressive.
Typically Share - AVCHD
AVC (1920 x 1080, 50i, 20Mbps)
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 20000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
Your video files hopefully use a similar settings as above.

Re: rendering settings
John
As you are in the UK and using Pal 25 fps yet mention rendering to 60i, how did you choose that profile.
Please press F6 for preference at the bottom of the panel shows the TV System, Pal should be selected unless there is some reason for you changing that.
Can you right click the m2ts for properties what are they?

Re: rendering settings
If I'm not wrong you could define interlaced and progressive formats on here:
- Frame-base = Progressive
- Lower Field First = interlaced
- Upper Field First = interlaced
If there are no issues with size, then isn't always better to select progressive instead of interlaced?

Re: rendering settings
Your Project Settings are best using the same properties as your video files properties.
A little unusual to see m2ts video files as those normally are in the BDMV Stream folder, should not be a problem though.
Even the 720 x 576 project properties I do not think will cause the crash, but best if you can edit the project properties to AVCHD(1920 x 1080, 50i, 18Mbps) option
If the crash persists then check the content of the timeline when the crash occurs.

Bluray international standards support 1920 x 1080 as interlaced video, upper or lower field if Progressive is used then the frame size has to use 1280 x 720
Johns original video is using Upper Field and that order should be retained when rendering to a compliant BD files.
A little confusion with a reference to 60i when John is in UK using Pal, then the project properties using SD 720 x 576 should be AVCHD settings

Re: rendering settings
Thanks Trevor. I used the 60i option as there isn't a 25i option. With x5 I never had a problem. since upgrading to 2020 there's been nothing but! since I opened the project in 2020 I can no longer open it in x5. Do you know if there is a way around this?

Re: rendering settings
Hi John
Unfortunately projects opened and saved with 2020 are no longer backwards compatible.
I am afraid you are now stuck with using 2020 for that project. With hindsight we should always copy the X5 VSP project file, using the copy for 2020, at least we retain the original project.
If the project is still crashing then it is most likely the timeline content.
I wont be able to reply for a while as Leeds United are on the TV.

Thanks for your help Trevor. I will try to remember to save my x5 projects in future. I'm about to watch Leeds too though I'm a Gunners fan, they scraped through yesterday.
