Auto effect on video problem
Happy New year!
I have a new problem with VS 2020 ultimate. When I add a new .MTS clip to the timeline it is overwritten by what looks like a background colour. If I click the play button I just get a coloured screen. If I click and hold and slide the timeline arrow the background goes and the video is visible. If I double click the clip in the library the multi trim window opens and works as normal.
The same clips in VS 2019 ultimate works fine. Other types of file seem OK.
Any suggestions? At the moment it seems a case of either converting each file or doing the edit in VS 2019.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
Any possibilities to share a screen capture how it looks? It might simplify the solution.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
I have used MTS video for many a year without experiencing this green / pink screen
I have to say that there have been a couple of posts referring to this issue.
I have just tried importing MTS 50i and 50P types but no problems
One poster deselected the Enable Hardware acceleration options (F6 – Performance tab) which seemed to fix this.
Another user set the Project Properties to match the video properties, make sure Show Messages has been selected via F6
Another suggested selecting HD playback option
What are your project properties and what are the video properties.
Also what is set in F6 as the TV Standards
Just clutching at straws as I cannot replicate this issue by tweaking my settings, settings although I feel it may be a conflict with TV settings Pal re Ntsc

Re: Auto effect on video problem
Thanks for that Trevor. I have checked and compared the various settings in 2019 and 2020 for one file and they are identical. Works fine in 2019 but not in 2020. Also tweaked some of the settings as you suggested in 2020 which led to random results - sometimes it worked and next time it's back to the green screen. Other times its green when added to library but OK when put in timeline. Not consistent at all.
I also have some .mov files with same problem plus on pressing play Program closes.
I will persevere!

Re: Auto effect on video problem
You could try this:
I have not enabled any accelerations, and smart proxy is not enabled.
But when I increased the preview size (highlighted the bars you could use).
The results were: So far I have seen this only on .mts files.
As you can see, I have the green screens as well.

Interesting Pepi
What is the size of your monitor and have you adjusted the desktop resolution from the recommended settings.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
26" Or how vendor (ViewSonic) says: "26“ (25.5“ VIEWABLE) WIDESCREEN"
Not sure what do you mean by that, but perhaps W10 display settings? But as this is happening (so far) only for the .mts files, then it should not be screen/monitor related.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
you mean in the same way that adjusting the Preview Screen size does not change things, it was just a thought.
I was not to know that you have not tweaked the monitor resolution.
I have used MTS video for a long time and never had a problem, had a few issues with Mpeg4 but not Mts?

Re: Auto effect on video problem
Have you tested this by your self? In your case make the preview smaller if you get the problem in same way.

But it would be interesting to hear from chrishargrave, if he had the same issue.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
No issues for me changing the preview screen size.
Latest twist for me is that some MTS files work others don't. Also now some have the green/pink screen when put into the library but behave properly when added to the timeline - but not all of them!
I have uninstalled the programme and reinstalled but that made no difference.

Re: Auto effect on video problem
Is a screenshot(s) of the clip properties in the situation of clip in TL but giving the 'green screen' available?
There have been reports - I've actually seen it in one case - of green bars on the bottom of the clip viewed in the preview screen. This was associated with a high frame rate - 200fps compared to 25 or 30, possibly double that - normally. I'm wondering if this might be a more extreme case of that???

Re: Auto effect on video problem
Chris
where are you in West Yorkshire? if it wasn't for Lockdown I could pop round and have a look
I do not think it is the MTS video files but an issue with the program or pc
If all your graphics drivers are upto date and windows is also upto date then I am at a loos as to what to suggest
I also have AMD main board although use on board graphics
By the way have you deselected Hardware Acceleration via F6 Preferences as the program does not support AMD
Of course I have tried setting that but still cannot replicate this green screen issue
All my video recordings being done with a Panasonic 900 series that records to MTS 50i and 50P fps, no problems.
I was going to suggest you upload the MTS video for us to try, at least it would rule out the video files should they play ok on our machines.
