DVD Quality Horrible

I'm afraid that because I really didn't understand what I was doing when I first starting making my project I probably screwed it up somehow. It's my first time using any type of video editing software so many of the terms and formats I'm just now learning about. Although it did render as a mpeg4 and an avc H.264. My intro has a stock video from online which is a Mpeg4 and the rest of the videos are from my recordings which are .MTS, the still pics are all jpegs. I attached Project properties and the mpeg4 intro properties.

I do have a question though, if I'm starting a new project and it has a mixture of different video formats, i.e mpeg4 and .mts how do I choose the proper properties for the project when saving as a .VSP?

Also since my intro is a mpeg4 if I render "same as first clip" I'm assuming it will render the whole project as an mpeg4. I'm thinking maybe removing the intro, render the rest as "same as first clip" then opening a new project and add the intro and render the whole thing as mpeg2. Does that sound reasonable?

Your mpg4 video and project properties are quite unusual having a frame rate of 119.98 fps
Yes a little confusion using Same as first clip, and in this instance quite unaceptable

Try editing the project properties to use Avchd, 1920 x 1080 x 30fps x 15000kbps

Render to mpeg2

Typically

MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-ntsc), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 8000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Again play this to check quality
Then start a new project
Share – disc – dvd, here you add the mpeg2, top left Add Media – Add video file

Create a disc image Iso, again play to check quality

Mixing video formats.

You are best setting project properties to match the properties of your final output file or the most used video
In this case that would be avchd 1920 x 1080 from the Panasonic camcorder
These are infact bluray compliant video and could be burnt to bluray without further rendering.
You are intending to burn a dvd as such the project has to be converted to mpeg2, so project properties could be set to mpeg2
The options and choice being debatable

Personally, I would set project to AVCHD, the same settings as the mts files
I would edit the project to render to Avchd, same as original, this would be my output file and the best quality.
Then I would render the avchd to Mpeg2, using this file to burn a disc.
We can burn the avchd video to disc but the process will convert to mpeg2 prior to burning the disc / ISO

If renders still fails with appropriate settings, I feel it is the mp4 using the 119fps that is causing the problem
You could try adding the mp4 to a new project, then render to avchd /mts using that intro in your main project

Almost but no cigar I did as you suggested and now when rendering as mpeg2 it actually makes it to 87% before crashing so I gained 12% lol....

I suspect I have to start from scratch.


One other though should i uncheck "Enable Smart Render"?

Oh BTW that 119.98 fps is the project settings not the intro mpeg4 settings. That was my bad. I just save what ever the settings were.

Yes I realise the 119 was the Project Properties, it is that setting that has caused the problem
119.98 appears to be 4 times the standard rate and may have been a High Speed recording to create a Slow Mo effect.
Whatever that settings has not done any good
The timelines should have been set to use 29.97 fps
When we add a 29.97 video to the 119 timeline there is insufficient frames to fill the timeline, Video Studio will fill the gap by adding duplicate frames.
Reverting the timelines to 29.97 does not appear to have stopped the crashes, you could try replacing the transitions at 87%, but just chasing our tails
And yes please try deselecting Smart Render
You should also disable Smart Proxy if you are using that option.
Without being able to view the actual project then I do not know what else to suggest

So yes you may be best to start the project again

if you want a reliable rendering in .mpg convert your files to .mpg using an external converter such as free avsconverter, it works, videostudio 2019 superior does not like xx.mpg files

I don't know where you got that idea .... VS xxxx has no problems with mpg files.
