Recommendations for Slideshow Template?

Post by ehbowen »

I have a client who has asked me to scan 500 family slides and compile them into a couple of slideshows on a DVD which she can give to her grandchildren. I have been using ProShow Gold for work such as this, but it is no longer supported. I have been a VideoStudio user since the ULead days and am currently on VS Ultimate 2020, recently upgraded. I wanted to use FastFlick to create the slideshows but I don't seem to have a template which is suitable for this job...I need a slow-paced template which will show off each individual picture to best advantage (minimal overlays, several seconds time on screen, large images). I purchased the "Best Sellers Slideshow Template" package, but those templates appear too frenetic and high-energy for this kind of work.

I'm afraid that I do not have the patience to hand-assemble 500 slides and transitions into a presentation; I need a template or some other resource which will automate a lot of the work. Does anyone have a suitable suggestion?

Hi ehbowen

And welcome to the forums
How many templates are available for you in FastFlick
The installation of the program seem to have missed a few but can be made available by copying the folders to the correct location
If you only have 11 templates then try moving a few folders (Instant Projects T-01 to T-10) from

C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio 2020\EditingStyle\InstantProject
To
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Content\EditingStyle\InstantProject
That should give you more Fast Flick templates.
I have attached a simple Fast Flick template that shows 4 images as an intro the rest of the slide show is a simple Crossfade

Hope these help

All right, thank you for the help. Now, I'm brand new to FastFlick. Is there a way to randomize the images, without having to shuffle them manually and re-render the movie between each one? I have a large number of slides taken aboard Navy ships and some taken in port and I'd like to mix them up. They weren't in any particular order in the box and so there's no reason to order them in any special manner; I just want to mix them up.

Hi
The order you see the image is really a Windows Explorer issue, it’s the way the files are sorted in the folder although the program will probably use a name order.
One option would be to rename the files in a random order, then import to FF
There are bulk rename options in PSP, not sure about Aftershot
I use a free program called Bulk Rename Utility, that will rename anything in any order you wish, a bit difficult to use, at first, I’m sure there was a random option, somewhere.
https://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/

From Fast Flick – Save and Share – choose Edit in Video Studio will load the images on the main timelines allowing you to complete the slide show, then Share to render to Mpeg4, or any format you wish to use.

I personally would not use fast flick - all the templates are available in Videostudio - second icon down on the right of the preview screen (Magic Wand) - and I feel you get much better control over everything - can see what your actually doing - can use different templates very easily throughout the one project - at least have a look at that option before getting into that terrible fast flick

Very easy, doesn't take much time, no need to purchase anything outside of VideoStudio. The key is in the Preferences settings.

1. Click on Menu Bar > Settings > Preferences... the Preferences box opens.
2. Click on the Edit tab.
3. Using the Default photo/color duration spin box, set time to 5 sec.
4. Using the Image resampling option droplist, set to Keep aspect ratio.
5. Select (check) Apply anti-flickering filter on photos.
6. Using the Default transition effect duration spin box, set time to 1 sec.
7. Select (check) Automatically add transition effect.
8. Using the Default transition effect droplist, set to Random.
9. Click the Random effects > Customize button, the Customize random effects selection box opens.

Here you select (check) the transitions to include. Given the audience indicated, I recommend you not select (remove the check) from a group of effects that may be too busy. For example, I personally would not use:

> Popular - Blowout
> 3D- Face
> 3D- Spin Door
> 3D - Whirlpool
> Build - spiral
> F/X - Blowout
> F/X - Burn
> F/X -Track Transparent
> Flashback - Flashback
> None of the Mask -
> None of the NewBlue
> None of the proDAD

Click the OK button.
Click the OK button.

Add a black jpg to open, maybe 2 or 3 seconds to fade in your opening Title slide or make it around 10 seconds and place Titles as overlay. Drop a large group of your images to the timeline (or even all of them) and VS will make each have 1 second for the lead in transition, full up for 3 seconds, then 1 second exit transition with each transition selected at random from the transition list you created in Step 9.

Add a black jpg at the end to transition an ending, perhaps with title text.

You'll produce the project in an hour, including intro titles and ending credits. Not sure how long it will take to render.
