Is this computer suitable for Video editing?

Postby alanball » Mon Jul 06, 2020 7:07 am

Don't know a lot about the tech side of computing and after advice. Would a computer with these specs be suitable for HD video editing?

GGPC Samurai GTX 1660 SUPER Gaming PC AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6 Core, 16GB RAM, 480GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce GTX1660 SUPER 6GB graphics, AC WiFi, Windows 10 Home 64bit, VR Ready.

Coments appreciated.

According to Corel, the minimum System Requirements for VS2020 (https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/produ ... tech-specs) are:

  • Operating system: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, 64 bit only
  • Processor: Core i3 or AMD A4 series for standard videos. Intel Core i7 or AMD Athlon A10 for HD and UHD videos
  • RAM: 4 GB or higher, 8+ GB highly recommended for HD and UHD videos
  • Graphics Card: 1024 x 768, minimum 512 MB VRAM or higher recommended for hardware acceleration
  • Sound Card: Windows-compatible sound card
  • Hard drive space: Minimum 10 GB for full installation
  • Internet connection required for installation, registration and updates. Registration required for product use.
So yes, your system can edit HD or UHD videos in VS. However, the question is what VS bugs you'll encounter whilst editing and rendering.

Thanks tletter, yes one of my main concerns is if VS is compatible, I was happy with VS2018 on my old computer.

In Israel same box will sell for ~1900 NZD but with 1T ssd.
If you cut the GPU to 1650 and just 500G SSD it plunge to ~1250 NZD.

Both with no OS.

I’ll insert my 5 cents - 480GB will not be enough, at least 1T

Hi ammocave
just to clarify I also have a 2TB HDD for all the user files. The SDD is just for the operation files.

I have one 120G SSD , the OS partition is just 60G of which ~25G free.
The other 50G partition? ~20 free.

The larger the bag more junk will fill it.
