Video Studio 2020 constantly crashing

Hi,
Its been a while but I started doing a new project on VS 2020. First issue is that when just playing back a project, %50 of the time the program just crashes while playing.
Second - I have been trying to create a video file from my project and it keeps crashing %100 of the time.
Is there some setting I should turn on or off to make it more stable please?

I've moved your post to the Video Studio forum where it is likely to get more answers. For a start, you need to give us more details about your project: what the format of the video in it is, its Properties and the format of the output video.

You wouldn't happen to have upgraded your Win 10 to the latest version (2004) by any chance? Someone else has reported getting crashes suddenly after the upgrade, and I understand Microsoft may have withdrawn the update because of other issues many users are finding... So far I have avoided it, though normally I am an enthusiastic Win 10 user and upgrader...

The videos are m2ts files with the following format:
PAL double (50 fps)
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 50 fps
Frame-based
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 25000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

Your projects, were they made with a previous version or are they new made with 2020
I have had problems using older projects with 2020 and find less crashes from new projects

The drawback for me is not being able to save a project for a previous version
Once I have opened say a 2018 project in 2020 I cannot return to 2018 to open the project, I am now making a copy of any project I use in 2020

As for MTS type video, bog standard and has never given much problems but of late the program does seem to struggle, even opening / importing MTS is very slow and can fail, certainly my experience.
I also found 50P seemed easier for the program to work with where 50i / 25fps struggled a little, Smart Proxy was required.

I started a brand new project with this version of VS (2020).
So at the moment VS is useless to me. I have tried over and over again to render the project and it keeps crashing.
Its disappointing after I spent so much time editing the project.

I assume your project properties match the video files properties (Alt+ Enter)
What options have you tried to render?
Have you used Same as first Clip as that is probably the best option to retain the same settings and quality.

Hardware Acceleration, just clutching at straws here but can you deselect that option and render again.
When you say the program crashes at 100%, what does it do?
Does it do a silent closure? Or does it just freeze and do nothing.

Project properties do match the video files.
I have used same as first clip to render.
I will try disabling hardware acceleration.
The crash is a silent closure.

I decided to uninstall everything. I had some very old versions of add-ons like Boris and New Blue.
Problem is I cannot install 2020 again.
I go to the 64bit > Ultimate folder and run setup.exe
It errors and says "please run videostudio_install.exe" which I cannot find. I tried a few MSIs but they dont work either.
Any tips please?

Go to Corel and download the trial version, that will give you the installer file, 6mb ish
I would save that to a new empty folder, run that file using your serial number, i also save the serial number as a txt to this folder
I would then download the program again to this new folder, then install from the new / latest installation files

The good news is the install worked. The bad news is that it crashed again. This is not the first time Ive spent hours editing a video only to never be able to render it and have it shown or uploaded. I havent done anything really fancy in the video editing either. After being a loyal VS person for 10 years I really am losing my patience. Its been such a waste of time for me.

We do know that silent crashes are a problem, many cannot be replicated they seem to be random
But your problem is always at the end of render at 100%, so what is on the timeline at the end of the project.
I assume there will be an ending title, an image, something different to the MTS file.
Or have you added a FX filter on the end clips.

And yes I do know it is very frustrating having these issues.

You could try setting the Project Preview Range from the beginning to 1 minute before the end
Remember to tick the option from Share
If that renders ok then there is a problem with the clips within the last minute, I think?
