Animated GIF as overlay?
As title asks, is there a way to insert an animated GIF (along with transparency) onto the timeline as an overlay track?

I have never found a way of just relying on transparency for animated GIF's - if the areas you want transparent are fairly uniform in colour have you thought about just using Chroma Key

That would work as well, as these are GIFs I make myself, but I can't actually find a way of adding them to the timeline. They just appear as static images that don't animated, at least in X8.

Strange - mine work fine
download and unzip the attachment and you should have a very short gif (5 frames) which works on my X8 - see if it works for you

Re: Animated GIF as overlay?
Hmm, still no luck.
I drag the GIF into the media library, then insert it onto the overlay track. It doesn't animate. Am I missing a step?

Re: Animated GIF as overlay?
Yeah mine doesn't behave that way at all. Here's a video of what happens when I try.

(I couldn't attach it because 500kb limit)

So I see
Re: Animated GIF as overlay?
Make sure you have Quicktime installed. Old Ulead software and now Corel require Quicktime to be installed to have animated gif support. Hope this helps.

Re: Animated GIF as overlay?
I tried re-installing both VS and Quicktime, unfortunately this did not help
