Copying a youtube file
Hello,
I have downloaded a YouTube clip the file size is 9 Mb's
I then copied it to Torch Browser, the file is now 92,242 kb's
I insert the file to video studio time line and choose share DV,
when that completes I check the file size again it has now grown to
965,72 Mb's...
I now copy the file to Google drive for sending in an email .this takes over 5hours to download/upload.
What I would like to know is there not a quicker to do this
Help please,
Thank you.

Re: Copying a youtube file
Do you understand what you are doing?
Did you download from UT the best available quality?
Why share as DV? it's totally wrong for the job.

Re: Copying a youtube file
Why not just upload the file downloaded from Youtube?

Skier hughes
I should have mentioned in my post that I needed to edit the YouTube clip before including in and email.
asik1
I have a little knowledge of what I am doing but i am always willing to learn more,
surely that is the idea of the forum is it not?
No I did not know that quality was could be variable when downloading a You Tube video clip
Why choose DV when rendering the file, Well it seemed a good choice to me, you don't agree,
so why don't you tell me just what I should have chosen.

Re: Copying a youtube file
Different codecs, make different file types and these can vary hugely in size, as you have found out.
I'd maybe opt for one of the mp4 variations.

Re: Copying a youtube file
If you will post the UT link here, we can check it's original property.
- If you found DV is too large, have you tried other exports? why not WMV that has many profiles to be good for E-mail/upload

Re: Copying a youtube file
If your intention is to e-mail the final video or send it over the internet then keep away from DV - try instead looking at .wmv or mp4

Hello asik1
Here is the link you asked for.
Now as I a wanted a title at the beginning and the end of the clip I imported the file to
Pro X 2 did the editing then share, choosing the file type DV. After the file was rendered
it then became nearly a Gb in size, as said before taking far to long to include in an email.
So that's about it really. I just want to send the edited file in an email that won't take to long.

Re: Copying a youtube file
First of all the file size is 91mb not 9mb, that's using 'the YouTube downloader, the file is mp4 with a resolution of 1280x720,25fps
when imported into VS, properties show the file size as 90MB, so no change in size
Selecting Share, MPEG-4 with the Profile MPEG-4 AVC (720x480,30p,2.5Mbps) the file size only increases to an estimated 92.5MB
But even that is far to large to attach to an email, you could go one step further,if you have the necessary software, convert the file to flv, this will considerably reduce the file size but would still be a very large email.

Re: Copying a youtube file
The original off UT clip I have is FullHD 132MB at ~4mb/s 25fps( I use Firefox with FVD plugin)
And it's interlaced.
For some reason I don't get good results in VSX7 re-encoding it to frame based profile.
In VirtualDub it's much better.
But anyhow still this will be a large file so you will have to send it via a sharing site, and there are many around.
*** Well, downloading just the HD clip as Robert did at 90MB 2.7MB/s solved the interlacing by YouTube.

Re: Copying a youtube file
Yes, at 90mb you will need to make use of a cloud service, such as onedrive or google drive etc.
Re: Copying a youtube file
If your sole purpose is to email a large file, why not use mailbigfile. Allows 2GB file sending for free. Drag your file to be uploaded, enter recipient, your email and any message (optional) and send.
