Thanks for your reply Doug. After mentioning my issues to the site I got a reply stating that they were mistaken about the bitrate and that it is actually OK so I'm assuming that isn't a problem now. I still think I might capture in AC3 in future if the quality is considered close to lossless. Howev...

Ken, thanks for your clarification. The audio is LPCM, which is I understand is uncompressed, hence the high bitrate. That is the bitrate at which my HDD records and so that is why I use the same bitrate for my DVD. I'm actually surpised to find that this is considered high as it's a standard bitrat...

Does VS always re-encode when authoring a DVD?

I recently shared a TV program that I authored to DVD on a file sharing site (it's a live music sharing site - all above board since anything uploaded that a band or record company disapprove of is quickly removed). I recorded the gig from a digital TV broadcast onto my HDD recorder, then transferre...

Just came back to this thread and maxblack, thanks very much for your expert analysis of my samples and for reassuring me that I'm not going mad. You've managed to demonstrate what I was trying to explain but with factual evidence rather than my amateur ramblings. I'm not sure where it leaves me, ot...

Ron, thanks for looking at my samples, I appreciate your help. I agree that the video properties always indicate that both are interlaced UFF. However, when I have been viewing them in VLC or Media Player Classic the VS11.5 does not appear to be interlaced, and by that I mean the horizontal lines th...

Many thanks for all the advice posted. Unfortunately I have already checked and re-checked all the various settings suggested to ensure I am telling VS to produce interlaced video, but without success. All your advice is perfectly rational but it seems VS11.5 is not behaving rationally, causing me m...

Graham and Trevor... thanks for your replies. They don't really solve my problem unfortunately as my problem is creating video using the "Custom" video method - basically keeping all properties the same as the original video and only changing the video bit rate, this is when I fail to get ...

Sorry, I should have provided more info. Hope this helps... Describe your problem: I want to edit my interlaced MPEG video and produce an interlaced MPEG video file at a lower bit rate. When attempting to re-encode the interlaced MPEG video the final video is not interlaced. It does not exhibit the ...

How to encode interlaced mpeg video?

Most of my work with Videostudio involves editing TV footage recorded on my HDD recorder to make my own DVDs (mainly music, sports events, that kind of thing). The videos I am editing are interlaced. If at all possible I use Smartrender and therefore no re-encoding occurs and the final video is also...

Thanks for yout input guys but I'm not going to pursue this one since I will encode the project first and then burn in a separate step - this works perfectly. I don't think there's anything wrong with the video or audio files as I can encode to mpeg OK and can also burn the project direct to DVD if ...

No sound on DVD - but only when burning the whole project

This is a strange one - when I burn my whole project it all proceeds OK without any error messages but the final DVD has no audio. If I burn the whole project minus the final frame then the final DVD does have audio. It only happens for one particular project and I guess there's an easy work around ...

Well, I checked the settings again and it seems when encoding the mpeg I hadn't selected "perform non-square pixel rendering", but I did when creating the DVD. So I'm guessing that's why it re-encoded the video - would I be right?. Certainly when I selected that option for the mpeg, reenco...

Unwanted reencoding of compliant mpeg files?

I have a 1 hour long project. I first encoded the project to mpeg2 format with variable bit rate (8264kbps) and LPCM audio. It took about 1 hour. I then attempted to use the encoded file to create my DVD and checked the "do not encode compliant mpeg files" option. The DVD took about 1 hour...
