What I don't like about VMS Platinum, you are limited to 4 video tracks. I'm trialing VMS 8.0 at the moment and I like the interface, also I find I'm getting amazing performance out of the Q6600 with it. If I can't get MSP8 to work properly, I think I'll go for Vegas Studio anyway, and if the 4-tra...

Re: Experiences using MSP8 on quad-core systems?

I'm worried now, seeing as Corel have discontinued the product, that I will never be able to get MSP8 to run as stable as it was on my old machine, as there will be no more product updates. Are you serious, they are discontinuing MSP8? That must be why I don't see an upgrade button for this program...

Thanks for responding ... are you running XP, and if so, are you experiencing any crashes in MSP?

Be careful of the Microsoft licensing restrictions ... you have to have bought the expensive Business or Ultimate versions of Vista to run XP in Virtual PC 2007 on Vista .... otherwise you need to buy an XP license as well as your Vista license!

Thanks for the excellent advice. My intention is to eventually go to Vista Ultimate 64-bit, but only as the apps and drivers mature, and in the meantime I'll dual-boot. XP64 is not an option because I also use Cubase 4, which is not supported on XP64, although I do believe it can be tweaked to run o...

Re: Works Ok for me... some more details

Running MSP8 within XP SP2 as a 32bit guest on Vmware with 2 processors, within the XP64 as a host works just fine, and I get more stability there than I did with my original single core old machine running XP 32bit on a 2G system. What a great idea! I wouldn't have thought the video performance wo...

Thanks everybody for the helpful suggestions. Here's what I have done so far: @troppo: the BIOS doesn't allow me to disable all but one core, there is a option there to disable multi-threading (whether real or virtual), but if I do that, it still shows up as having 3 (!) cores in Task manager. Also,...

I've tried disabling hyperthreading in the BIOS, but then it amazingly comes back with three (!) processors visible in Task Manager. No joy that way either. If that would have fixed it, it would have defeated the point of getting the more powerful PC in the first place. Remember, there are no specif...

Guys, you may be missing my point: it's not Vista-compatibility I'm worried about, it's about the fact that MSP seems to crash on a fresh install of XP SP2 if you have a quad-core processor. It doesn't seem to handle new hardware very well. I think you need to start a new thread so that we can get ...

Experiences using MSP8 on quad-core systems?

I recently upgraded to a quadcore and have been having frequent crashes with MSP8. The crashes are more or less random but I'm trying to document it to see if I can discern pattern. I'm wondering how others are faring with new hardware? I have tried both imaging the old partition over to the new one...

My main problem is that I recently upgraded my PC and MSP crashes a lot on the new quadcore hardware. If there is an issue with using the application on modern hardware (and it will soon not be possible to buy a single-core CPU!), then not only would we need to hang onto the current MSP version, we'...

You might want to hold off on that a while ... ULead have been bought by Corel, who apparently have discontinued the product.

It is with abject horror that I have just learned that MSP is to be discontinued. I have scanned the many, many posts in this thread but I have not had time to read all of them. Can a newbie to this forum ask for help in deciphering what's going on? -- where and how was this announced, and how come ...
