NEW! PaintShop Pro 2019

HEIC still images

HEIC still images

Postby MikeA » Wed Apr 17, 2019 1:38 pm

I just upgraded to VS 2019. However, I am disappointed to see that the .HEIC files I get from my iPad are not usable. I have been converting them to .JPG but wonder what the story is here.

Thanks

I can't open HEIF images (.heic file extension) in PaintShop Pro 2019 so it's not surprising that VS2019 has an issue. The issue probably is that HEIF and HEVC are extensively covered by patents, which means there could be legal implications to implementing HEIF support, particularly in paid software. As these image format can be opened in Windows 10's native image viewers, it is assumed that Microsoft has resolved the licensing issues for its codecs.

You can always check in advance on the Corel website to see what formats VS can import: https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/produ ... quirements

And unfortunately, HEIC is not one of them....

Thanks! I see that there is an iPad setting so that formats are more generically compatible and I can use that with my tablet. But I will still need to convert those from others who are using the newer format.
