PSP 2019 October Update

Postby giorlimo » Wed Oct 31, 2018 9:03 am

Hello to everyone.
I installed the last version of PSP 2019 which contains the october patch/update.
Did you notice the "face recognition" function isn't available anymore? Is that correct? If i click on the function, the software itselfs opens a windows which says me about it.
Is this an error given by the patch/update or I must accept this?
Thanks to all.

The missing face recognition function was listed in the release notes sent by Corel with the update.
We have no informations from Corel about this.
We don't know if it is definitive or if it will be included again in a next update or version.

Thanks Jean-Luc for your reply. I'm sad (for Corel's "decision") but at the same time relaxed for the fact the software on my dekstop isn't "faulty" as suggested Yesterday by the Technical Service.
Consequently I'll still use Adobe Lightroom to catalogue and quickly adjust raw files and PSP for the rest.
Thanks again.

I don't use Lightroom but I believe it is a subscription service. If you use it only for cataloguing you could look at alternatives. Because I shoot RAW I use Corel AfterShot. It has a very good catalogue which takes a while to get used to but does an excellent job.

Corel's so-called Tech Support isn't widely known to have much actual knowledge about the program or how it works or how to fix issues. You definitely can't expect them to have any knowledge whatsoever about the latest changes to it.

There is a pre-subscription Lightroom.

Would it be possible that dropping the facial recognition option is a result of the European privacy law that came into force on 25th May?
Europe is quite a substantial market for Corel, I would assume. Facebook received some stick because of their facial recognition software.
So to me it doesn't seem likely it will be implemented again in a future update or version, unless the law changes again.

For info : I'm using Lightroom 6 which is the last version without subscription. I didn't downloaded it but bought the box with CD. People recognition is not broken and name of people may be embedded in the Exif info. Thoses people names and keywords created by LR are recognized by PSP.

I don't think so but perhaps you are right. I don't know.
What I know is that Facial Recognition in PSP was not developped by Corel but by a third party company. If this company doesn't want to continue with Corel, this function must be removed of desactivated. This could be the reason too.

Hello Mark. I shoot stills in RAW format and i import them directly from the sd cart into Lightroom, which i own as a software (I didn't accept Adobe decision regarding the last version which is availble only with a monthly subricsption, and I've no need to change my camera so the version i own is pretty good).
I have AfterShot 3 Pro and I know its functionalities regarding the catalogue, but it lacks the face recognition, While Lightroom has.
So I catalogue stills in lightroom, i use it to perfect the raw pictures and correct some details, and PSP fore the rest. I'm sure in the future, I'll pass to AfterShot (when i'll change my camera, actually isn't supported !!!).

Thanks Jean Luc. I own Lightroom 6 (ver 1.4) and i confirm the face recognition works and it's not broken.I'll check the fact PSP recognizes the info added by Lightroom.
Thanks.

Zanatara I think you're perfectly right about it. It's not a matter of law (I know the law because I had to apply it in the Company I work for), for sure It's a matter of agreements whith the third party company.
