Puzzling behaviour of hyperlink

Postby terrypin » Wed Jun 13, 2018 10:42 am

This is arguably OT but if there are any Excel users here I'd appreciate advice please as I'm baffled.

My JPG files are associated with IrfanViiew, so if I d-click one in File Explorer it opens in IrfanView by default. The same happens normally if I left click a hyperlink to a JPG in Excel.

But in the case I'm puzzling over the hyperlink opens that JPG in PSP 8, not IrfanView, and it is headed 'Embedded Document'.

Any insights as to how that can occur, or when to expect to see embedded documents in in PSP would be very helpful please.

What is the exact extension? Is it JPG or is it JPEG? And are both properly identified as opening in ifranview by default? From what little I know about Excel it uses the default app identified in the default apps control panel on Windows. And that is either done by file type or by protocol.

So my first suggestion, with my limited knowledge, would be to verify the spelling of the file's extension. Then verify what Windows is using to open that particular spelling of that extension. If everything looks good, then I would go into the default apps dialog and find where PSP8 is the default software to open what kinds of files and see if you can't change it to ifranview.

Thanks. No issue with the extension - always JPG.

This was part of a macro I was writing to automate a whole series of tasks with minimal user intervention (**). But stumped by this obstacle I've now changed my workflow to overcome it. Still mystified and curiosity may get me back later when this project is finished. Couldn't see any reference to 'embedded document' in PSP 8 Help or after a brief google search.
