PicToPainting plugin installation failed

Hi!

I bought PSP 2019 Ultimate and installed only x64 version to my Win10 x64.
Installed Perfectly Clear 3.5 SE, which works good.
But I cannot able to install PicToPainting, because always got an error message:
"Error 1606. Could not access network location \Plugins\EN."

I disabled antivirus, firewall, sandbox etc-etc, without success.
Could you help me please...

I don't have PictoPaint, but I'm guessing that, unlike Perfectly Clear 3.5, it's only a 32bit plugin. If that's the case, and if you only installed the 64bit version of PSP, then it could be that the PictoPaint installer is looking for a 32bit version of PSP2019 to install into it's Plugins folder. And it can't find it because you didn't install the 32bit version.

Since I have not downloaded Pic to Painting I can't say for sure whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit.

No problem here with Perfectly Clear - works in 64 bit version , does not appear as a choice in 32 bit version. There was a 32 bit version of Perfectly clear offered back with PSP X6 (which was the first time PSP came out in a 64 bit version)

On the other hand the other Pic to Painting appears in the 32 and 64 bit Effects versions but gives an error in the 32 bit and works well in 64 bit version.

So evidently when pic to painting installs it looks for something in the 32 bit installed program before it will install properly even though it does not work with the 32 bit version.
It also puzzles me why people would only install the 64 bit version - which evidently leads to some problems . Corel should remove that choice and always install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions. If people don't want the clutter of two icons on the desktop they can always delete one of the icons or move it to a folder of lesser used shortcuts.

I agree with hartpaul that the PicToPainting plug-in comes in both a 32 and 64 bit version. In fact when you look in the PSP Plugins\EN folders in both the 64 and 32 bit versions of PSP, each plug-in is labelled clearly: PicToPaintingPlugin_x64 and _x32.

In my case, however, both versions work fine in their respective version of PSP 2019 (and 2018 for that matter when I copy the 8bf files there).

I also tend to agree with harpaul's reasoning about the installation process trying unsuccessfully to access the 32 bit setup, since the OP did not install the 32 bit version.

FWIW, from another thread on PicToPainting, the relevant download of the setpup and installation files can be found in C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\Local\Temp in one of those numerically named Cab-type folders -- in my case {9299BCDE-AA5D-4693-B0F7-F43AF98D8760}.

I reinstalled PSP2019 with x86 & x64 edition and the PicToPaint installer working. And the plugin works from x64 edition of PSP. :P

I downloaded the trial then paid for a licence which I then entered in the trial version. Everything worked fine except installing the Pic to Painting plugin. As shown above the correct way to install a licensed version of Psp is via the link which is sent after buying a licence which then gives the option of both 32bit and 64bit installs. This then allows the plugin to installed. To avoid confusion with the plugin maybe Corel should not include the 'activate' option with the trial version?.

And I agree with @hartpaul in not understanding why people don't follow the recommended installation procedure shown in the install UI, which is to install both the 32bit and 64bit versions of PSP. In addition to a previous post I made recently in another thread about the best rules to follow when installing and/or uninstalling programs and updates, I should have added that people should be following recommended installation procedures. I also believe in installing the complete program if recommended (after first double-checking the Custom option if available to ensure that no extra unwanted toolbars, spam ads or PUP's are part of the installation, which can then be unchecked if necessary). Generally speaking, the program developers know better than most users why they recommend certain installations. And with storage so cheap nowadays, space shouldn't really be a concern to most people. JMHO, of course.

Yes but just downloading the trial you are not given an install option just the (I assume) 64bit version they send you and if you like it and then buy a licence you can then activate the trial to a bought version. If you have no other knowledge of 32bit/64bit installs this leads to the problem installing the plugin. Like I said it would be much better if new users are told not to activate the trial but to activate via the purchased link which then gives you the correct install options.

Actually, what would be even better would be if Corel got their collective heads out of wherever they have them stuck and made the trial download an installer that allowed installation of both the 32bit and 64bit versions, just like the retail installer. But I've just about given up expecting common sense from Corel marketing people. :-(

Why would you install the 32bit version? Yes I do know why. But do new users know why?
It's very easy for us 'experienced' users to simply say 'install both versions'. But why?

Simple answer is that it's not clear for a first time user why they should install both 32 and 64bit versions. Most users start out with the 64bit version and are happy with it. It's only when they try to do something, like plugins, that they trip over the 32 v 64 bit issue.

Corel simply needs a clearer notice at installation time.

I had the same errormessage
"Error 1606. Could not access network location \Plugins\EN."

when trying to install Pic-to-Painting in a 32-bit trial version as I have many users who use the old, old plugins.

Purchased the Ultimate bundle, and installed the 32-bit and the 64-bit version.
Pic-to-Painting installed without an error.
Works as a embedded plugin in both 32-bit and 64-bit version. I love it!

I agree with other posters here. For a first time buyer it is unclear what the benefit could be of installing the combi.
Not until you've installed 2019 does it become clear that their KPT-collection is 32-bit only.

I'm having the same issue. However, I am trying to install PicToPainting with the trial version of PaintShop Pro 2019.

The issue I'm having is that i get the 1606 error - unable to access network location '\Plugins\EN but I can't install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the program.

When installing either version (trial version), if one (either the 32 or 64 bit version) is already installed, the installation tries to remove the current version prior to installing.

Anyone have any clues as to how to get the PicToPainting plugin to install with the trial versions.

I have the retail version of PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate installed as well.

The only option that Corel provides - perhaps deliberately?? - is to purchase the program and then rely on their 30day return policy if you're not happy with it.
