[Linux] Aftershot + Gstreamer moving forward?

Postby drosky » Fri Jan 19, 2018 9:07 pm

I have been using Aftershot on OpenSuse Tumbleweed (RPM-based distribution), and the most recent system updates forced the removal of Aftershot.

After looking into things, it appears that the distro is moving in the direction of being incompatible with Gstreamer 0.10.x. Attempts to reinstall Gstreamer 0.10.x libraries cause numerous dependency problems and would force the downgrading of many system packages, including but not limited to the most recent Pulseaudio system.

I realize that OpenSuse Tumbleweed is a "bleeding edge" rolling distro, and I may need to accept the fact that Aftershot will no longer run on this distro, but this is likely a harbinger of the direction the mainstream version (OpenSuse Leap) will take at the next major release, and other distros may also eventually become incompatible with with Gstreamer 0.10.

Would it be possible for Corel to release a version of Aftershot for Linux that is built against Gstreamer 1.x? My hunch is this would go a long way to future-proof the application.

Thanks,
-D

Well, I've already reported this months ago and got no reaction from Corel.

There is a workaround, however: simply convert the latest *.deb release to *.rpm and use it. Works!
