KeyFrame Effect when I want it.

Postby 22chuck22 » Tue Apr 22, 2014 8:03 pm

I'm new to Motion Studio 3d so hopefully I word my question correctly. My question concerns keyframes.

Here is the scenario

1. Start new project.

2. Use the Text Tool and Type in Text.

3. I put the timeline bar on frame 15 and add a new keyframe

4. Choose a Text Effect Preset with the timeline bar still on frame 15

I want the text effect I choose to start on frame 15. However, when I play it back the effect starts on frame 1. How come?

From frame 1 to 15 I want the text to look just like I initially typed it and do nothing and the text effect I choose to start on farme 15 only. But instead, the text effect starts on frame 1 even though I added a new keyframe on frame 15 and selected a text effect while my timeline bar was still on frame 15. Why didn't the effect I selected start on Frame 15 like I wanted it to?

What am I doing wrong?

I looked for some indepth tutors on keyframes but only found keyframe discussed briefly with other lessons and it did not cover keyframing thoroughly.

Thank You

I just popped over here to take a look myself because I have this same trouble- there must be a way to do it, can someone come up with an answer? I am watching all the tutorials by the way, and have not seen the answer to this question yet. A way to use keyframes to tell the effect when to START.

Apologies Ken for asking the same question twice...I continue to work on this one myself. There is one feature that might be the key to it. In the timeline there is something called an "plug-in mask", not sure what that is yet but maybe it will help me figure this out. I've not been able to find much about effects masking.
OK- I just worked with things a bit, and the plug in mask does indeed "mask" the plug in from working until you tell it to! So, it looks like I have figured it out!

Hi Mark

I have not used MS3D in a while, but once I viewed the timelines the brain started working again.

Yes the Plug-in Mask places a green line on the timeline, you can move the red dots to select the mask duration. The mask only shows within the green line.

I must brush up on this program, I just don’t seem to have time.
Quite powerful to use, unfortunately not very intuitive.
