Quick question

Postby ErikAtMapache » Sat Nov 16, 2013 3:16 am

Hi all -- I just downloaded MotionStudio and I'm enjoying it. I was wondering, is there a way to keep from selecting different objects besides hiding them? I have a particle effect and an object, but since they overlap, I can't seem to drag one without selecting the other. I tried using the alt, shift, and control keys in conjunction with the mouse but it didn't seem to help.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi ErikAtMapache

And welcome to the forums............

I do not use MS3D that much so a little rusty……….

From the Standard Tool Bar you can select the different objects from the Drop Down box adjacent to the Undo arrows.
There is also access to the left of the timelines with a similar drop down box.

You do not need to touch the object to move it, simply drag over an empty screen area.

Is that what you were looking for?

Thanks for your quick reply -- your answer is close. I've already put two items on the workspace and I want to manipulate one of them (i.e. went to frame 90 and I want to move one of the objects). They overlap so when I select one of them with the Object List dropdown, the other one ends up getting selected by the mouse. With further research, it only seems to be an issue with particle effects, so maybe that's what my problem is. In Poser, you can hold down the shift key and nothing else will get selected (it's also a drag-to-move thing -- there are large selection areas on the screen and the program doesn't know if you want to select a new item and then move it or if you want to just move the currently selected item).

Anyway, thanks again for your help. I'm still learning it.

Hi Erik

As I mentioned you do not have to click on the object to move it, dragging the mouse over a clear section will move the selected object, providing you can see the “Hand”. It will also move when dragging outside the preview screen.

Also at the top left of the screen is the X – Y and Z co-ordinates showing the object position, changing these will move the object
