What do you see inside the PSP folder?

And running setup from this folder errors out? I only ask because this setup file shouldn't be using lash. Only the autorun program should be using flash as that's how it presents the UI.

Hm. I'm on Win7-64. I installed PSP7 on this machine from the CD, updated it with a CD containing 7.04. Both disks are 20y old. I recently (Last autumn) installed PSP7 from the same disks to a Win 10-64 machine that belongs to my wife. My daughter is familiar with PSP7 from her various laptops -- Vista, Win7, Win-10. Check your Flash again, is all I can suggest.
Had PS3, PSP3; Installed: PSP-4.12, 5.03, 6.02, 7.04 (liked it a lot & used it for years), 8.10, 9.01, 10, 11, x4, x6, x7, x8, x9; now using PSPx10 (PSP 2018; version 20.2.0.1 x64) on Win 10-64; rejected PSP 2019.

I'm going to use the free download I got. Won't know until after my 30 day free trial is up whether or not I'll need any more help. So I'll see you in a month.
THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP.

So, my saga continues.

I uninstalled my PSP7, and installed a free trial version as suggested. It didn't work all that well, certain tools made it crash. And I still had those folders on my desktop.

So then I figured I should just go ahead and buy the latest version. Used PSP7 for a long time and got my moneys worth.

So I installed the trial version of the latest version. And I didn't like it. I expected to like it, but no. Menu font too small, not easy to read. Toolbars confusing. However that install did not drop folders on my desktop! Yay!

So then I got the bright idea to uninstall the trial and reinstall my PSP7. Maybe no folders on the desktop?

That's what I did, and great, no folders.

BUT NOW IT WON'T SAVE ANYTHING. NOTHING. it just says "Unable to create the file"

Frustrated to say the least.

If you are referring to PSP 2019, can we assume you went to the 'User Interface' menu along the top of screen and altered the various things listed in that drop down menu, to Large -- including of course Text? That increases the size of the text not only of menu headers, but also the text of dropdown menus.

Found
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Jasc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Cache\Tubes\DirName1
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Jasc\Paint Shop Pro 7\Cache\Tubes\DirName2

Opened them all, changed desktop to Cache\Tubes, etc.

Opened PSP again, folders reappeared on desktop AGAIN. Went back into registry, the DirName1 is the correct folder. But there is a new line created showing desktop. "C:\Users\Kathleen\Desktop\Brushes"

This has happened before to other people. It happened after a Windows update, see cnet link below.

As you have done all sorts of things including hacking a Windows Registry, I suggest try to reset the PSP settings. You lose your workspace settings but it is worth it to try it. This resets everything in PSP as ig you have just installed it on your system. IT DOES NOT DELETE ANY OF YOUR FILES OR WORK. I'm not sure if registry hack will mess up this but try it any way.

To reset the settings, press shift key while double clicking on the desktop icon for PSP. Keep it pressed until PSP starts. You will get a window asking whether you want to reset the settings, just press OK/Yes. This may or may not make PSP work as expected.

Good luck.

One other thing I should mention is that in PSP2019, there is a settings button as shown in this picture. So could you check whether this is available in X7.

If you can ever fix the folder glitch, PSP7 is still fun.

So I installed the trial version of the latest version. And I didn't like it. I expected to like it, but no. Menu font too small, not easy to read. Toolbars confusing

In the User Interface tab of PSP 2019 you can choose larger Icons, Fonts, Toolbars. Don't let the default sizes put you off. In PSP 2018 they allow me to choose Larger icons, and that is enough for me. But Corel did not introduce user-changeable font sizes until PSP 2019, so you may wish to look at that again. The "confusing" menus have lots of good stuff, which you may come to appreciate.

At this point, all I want is for my PSP7 to work again, to save my images.

If that is all you want . . .

Here's an illustrative story: once one day when I started PSP 2018 all my windows turned yellow. There had been no updates to PSP 2018 in the interim. I had done nothing different and as long as I didn't turn on PSP 2018, nothing turned yellow. I had workarounds, but they required some steps and the situation was annoying. Then one day it stopped. There had been no updates to PSP 2018 in the interim. So: I suspect changes to Windows caused the problem and stopped causing the problem.

Q: is there a way to completely replace Windows? I know what I would do, what I have done but I have all of my important apps on CD, including PSP7 (original retail disk). I even put the 7.04 update on CD. Starting over means putting your files where Windows can't touch them. It means re-installing your apps. It means backing up everything important. It means making no mistakes. It takes a long time. TBH, I have not done this in 10 years. I haven't had to do a nuke from orbit with Win7. But I have changed computers, and that was starting over - from scratch.

So, whatever you do, God bless you.
