Further to my last post, I changed my default browser to Chrome on my SP4 and restarted PSP2018. No change. I rebooted and in shutting down, Windows was updated to 16299.192, same as on my desktop. Upon rebooting, I opened PSP and the same error about my browser not being supported showed and the JavaScript error. So there you have it, the problem is not the version of Windows nor my browser (at least I have to assume that Google Chrome can handle Google Maps JavaScript API).

Back to Corel to find a solution.

It's a relief, in a perhaps perverted way, to find I am not the only person with this problem. And I still have it. Great program, but a a real nuisance of a problem. Right now I've realized that when I got my computer Vista was the new kid on the block. The computer may be showing its age and I'm thinking of getting a new one - I just want to see how this meltdown/spectra issue resolves itself. I am, however, a little concerned that Windows 10 users are also having the problem.

I have the same problem. Win 10 @ 16299.192, Edge browser. I first saw it while I had the "Guided Tour" active. Every time I got to the "Map Mode" item, the script failed. I can re-create at will by clicking the Globe Icon. Just upgraded from X9 to PSP 2018, and I never saw this with X9. I opened an issue with Corel today.

Just tried the 32 bit version for the first time, and it works as it should. It fails every time with the 64 bit version.

Update: I got this response from Corel tech support:
Try resetting your internet settings.
1. Press WINDOWS KEY + R
2. Type INETCPL.CPL and hit OK (this will pull up Internet Options).
3. Go to Security tab and hit “Reset all zones to default level”.
4. Go to the advanced tab and click Restore advanced settings and then go ahead and click the RESET button.
5. Check "Delete personal settings" option.
6. Click Reset.
7. Click OK.
8. Relaunch the installer and/or the software.

I couldn't see how that would make any difference, and since the 32bit version works OK, I declined to change my security settings and they closed the ticket. It's a feature I never use, so I'll just have to remember to never click the "globe" icon.

I've got to say, the geotagging feature in PSP X9 was a deal breaker for me but haven't been able to use it for the last year as it keeps coming up with the script error message and locks up. On the face of it PSP looks to be a good photo editing software but when you come to use it it dooesn't wotk reliably and as yet I've had no response on this board to my message that I posted a year ago. I'm starting to get to grips with an old version of Photoshop.

I should also point out that I use Windows 10. I also deleted Google Chrome which I thought might be the problem but I get the same message with Firefox.

I too have had this problem with script messages blocking the use of PSP X9. I noticed that the message states it's something to do with Google maps so I deleted Google Chrome and used it through Firefox but that didn't cure it. The problem occurs on both the 64 bit and 32 bit versions and on both a Windows 10 and Windows 7 machine. It has become unusable.

I tried this workround as I also got the same from Corel support. I spent some time doing this plus deleting all files from my Temp folder. Did a restart of the computer and still got the same problem.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad I didn't waste my time. Unfortunate that you wasted yours. There must be many more people having this problem. My PC configuration is about as generic as it gets.

I am getting the same problem as above. I can only stop it by closing the programme through the Task manager. But I found that on reopening the programme Script error immediately appears and again I cannot get rid of it, even if I turn off the computer and restart. The only solution I had was to uninstall the programme and reinstall.
I cannot see in this forum any solution to this problem. Yesterday I was on the help chat and it was suggested that I upgrade to the latest Paintshop pro but I notice one of the posts is having the same problem and he is using 18.

kalidor: The same thing happened to me after I changed my default start window to "Manage" from "Welcome". Go to File > Preferences > General Programme Preferences > Tabs and change to "Set Welcome as Default", and you will no longer have the start up script error.

Here's the way to change this and also to avoid having to cancel PSP in Task Manager: When you have the script error message, hit the "n" key while you have your cursor positioned over an item on the screen. There will be a short time before the next script error message appears. It will give you time to click an item on your screen. Repeat on the new screen, and you can navigate through options in PSP. After you have set "Welcome as Default" you can continue to use PSP with no script errors unless you inadvertently click the "Globe" icon. You will have to put up with the "Welcome" screen each time. Hope this makes sense.

Is there any reason you didn't set your default start window to Edit? Did you try that to see if worked the same with the error as the Welcome screen does? The reason I ask is that the Edit screen offers a way to start working immediately while the Welcome screen does not.

Just changed it to "Edit" and that also works OK. I'll probably leave it that way.

Hi thanks for the advice. I have only just bought and installed the programme so I was feeling my way round and clicked on maps to see what appears. I don't think I'll click on that for awhile. I had to uninstall and then reinstall so everything at the mo is ok. :D
