PSP X9 and "Updating Cache Settings" problem

Postby GArtiste » Sun Nov 05, 2017 5:30 am

Using PSP9 X9 19.2.0.7 x64 or x86.

My PC is * Intel Core i7 6700K 4 GHz unlocked LGA1151 CPU, RAM 16 GB DDR4, SSD 256GB for OS and programs. Usually there is no significant waiting for programs to open.

However PSP X9 now takes some 1-2 minutes to load, mainly because of a delay "Updating Cache Settings". I have tried rebuilding the cache without avail.
It could be this problem occurred after upgrading to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update v1709 OS build 16299.19(?).

Can anyone suggest a fix?

TIA

Welcome to the forum!

I have updated several of my computers to Win 10 v1709 OS build 16299.19. I have PSP 2018, X9, X8 and X7 on them and have not noticed any change of speed in opening them since that update a couple of weeks ago. I open always in the Edit workspace, and I'm wondering whether you do too, or whether you open in Manage?

Having same problem with paintshop pro 2018 20.2.0.1 x64

Usually paintshop pro opens rather quickly - running an i7 cpu - but now - takes 1 to 2 minutes just to open. Lots of time in initializing command manager and updating cache settings.

Try resetting the program to default configuration- instructions here for X6 but same for X9-

My i7 3.4GHz system is also taking minutes hanging in "Updating Cache Settings".

The response to reset and such was insultingly generic. I did indeed do that - although the documentation was terrible - and the result is that it still does exactly the same couple of minutes for every startup.

It seems to me coincident with the latest Microsoft Creator update.

Didn't change anything, my i7 still takes minutes to start now.

I've noticed this with PSP X9 too since the latest Microsoft Windows 10 update.
MS not Corel on this occasion!

The very slow PSP launch can be caused by adding to many folders or folders with too many photos to the "Manage" part of PSP. In my case I had some thousand photos in one folder with many sub-folders, and I added for testing the root folder to PSP Manage, which blew up PSP's database. Once I removed it, PSP comes up quickly again. Better never ever make use of it.

Many of us use the Manage tab but only the Computer option, not Collections. If I recall correctly, some users have found that using Collections, particularly with many folders and images, causes slowdown much worse than simply using the Computer tab option.

I will add a "me too" on this issue. Ever since installing the fall creator's Win10 update PSP X9 takes at least a minute to load. Like others, I don't use the Manage portion but have it set to open straight to the editor.

Same problem with 1709 Windows update. After the update, 32-bit and 64-bit got hung up on cache settings; and now 32-bit doesn't open at all.
