I am also done with PSP 2018, having experienced not only this printing problem but also numerous other flaws and foibles. My history as a loyal customer? JASC implementation back in the 90s was great; early Corel versions up to X2 fantastic. But since then it's been a disaster. Goodbye PSP, welcome practically any alternative that works. Probably ACDSee Studio or Affinity. Money back, please.

If it's just a printing issue save your files and print them using a sepcialised program such as QImage. QImage gives you so many more options.

I have both PS Pro 2018 and the previous Pro X9 versions, 64 bit, Win 7. BOTH experience problems when attempting to print. When I try to print a photo, the dreaded ball of death just swirls, and the program stops working so that I have to end it via Task Manager. Now, it does NOT do this every time...but MOST of the time. If I get the print utility to open and try to choose a printer, that will crash the program too. I'm not seeing much in the way of solutions here, but my eyes are not as good as they once were. Thanks.

...and now that I've taken a closer look, it appears this problem has been going on for nearly a decade without any solution from Corel. BTW, I have two different printers, so this does not seem to be a printer driver incompatibility or similar. I don't need to print all that much, but I want the program to work when I DO want to print a photograph.

I'm printing at house on two different printers (an Epson photo quality wi-fi inkjet and an Epson color laser connected with USB3). Both are working without PSP problems. I have X7, X8, X9 and 2018 installed and I'm printign every day with my PSPs. In the office where I work, we have a professional Xerox laser A3 printer and we print with PSP X6 without problem.
I'm curious to understand why a few users have such problems...

I'm with Jean-Luc on this. I had all of the Jasc versions of PSP from 4 to 9, the first two Corel versions, and have X7, X8, X9 and 2018 installed. Over those years have had several different printers, HP in the past and then Canon printers for some years. I have also gone through several different computers with different Windows operating systems in all of those approximately 20 years. I have never had a printing issue with any of those PSP versions, and am also mystified as to why a few people seem to have those issues. It definitely smells like a driver/OS compatibility issue that perhaps involves at least some PSP component (possibly a PSP common file) but obviously not one that would be easy to troubleshoot. It's certainly not something that is an issue with the vast majority of PSP users, which probably explains why Corel hasn't been to isolate the issue let alone fix it.

Same here with the versions of PSP mentioned in my profile info. I have not had any problems printing from PSP (when I tested to see if I could duplicate any of the problems mentioned) . It is interesting that those people that are having the problems have not mentioned the printer they are using. I have some old Canon IP 4700 and 3600 ink jet printers.

However I do not normally use PSP to print out images . I use Irfanview because of the options it offers and the familiarity with it.

Having followed the threads with these complaints for some time I can say that at least some have mentioned their printer types and manufacturers, and those few aren't always the same. However, IMHO that still points to driver/OS/system specific issues, rather than it being a PSP specific issue. When an issue affects a good many of the many thousands of PSP users, then it's worth Corel looking into. When, as in this and other issues I have followed, it affects a small minority of users, then it can't simply be a PSP issue.

People are too quick to blame one program whenwhen they have an issue just because it only seems to happen with that one program. That's not the best evidence of the cause, nor is it the best way approach troubleshooting a sudden issue. A good example are the complaints about .pspimage thumbnails not showing in Windows explorer, which many posters were blaming on PSP. But @bruce1951 has recently shown that he has had the same issue with images saved with his other editor Photoline. It would help if people were a bit more discerning. JMHO, of course.

It's October 2018. I had to join just to add something I've not seen mentioned yet. Background first, then my little "find," if you can call it that.

I, too, have printed from PaintShop Pro 2018 Ultimate 64-bit to a Canon printer for a while without any problem. When I recently dumped that and went back to HP, a PHOTO ENVY 7855 to be exact, I immediately started seeing the Tab Control with bonus crash issue and found this board. I installed the 32-bit version of PSP so I could try printing from there. That was a success, as several here have already said. 64-bit still fails, no surprise. Just on a hunch, I made sure to try both Ctrl+P and clicking File|Print with the mouse to see if there was any difference, since I hadn't seen that mentioned. It mattered not, of course.

Then, just out of frustration and trying anything I could think of, I held down my left Shift key while I clicked File|Print. Lo and behold, PSP printed to my HP IMMEDIATELY. No Tab Control message, but also no print dialog box in which to do page layout before printing. It just took off printing with who knows what settings. My landscape image printed in portrait orientation and didn't fit width-wise, so you can guess as well as I can what settings it printed with. But that's not really the point.

The point is that PSP 2018 64-bit CAN PRINT without error. The obvious-to-me problem is the dialog box that should appear can not appear without crashing PSP, but if you Shift+File|Print, you bypass the Tab Control message (whatever that's all about) and the jumbled dialog box, thereby avoiding the crash.

In my professional opinion as a software test engineer, the ball is in Corel's court. Corel, please extend us the courtesy of letting us know when you've read this.

Found this thread when searching the web for "tab control failed to initialize".
I have PSP 2018 64 bit, new-ish HP color laserjet MFP M281fdw. Tried printing using toolbar icon or file/print and I get teh same crash symptoms.

HOWEVER I just discovered by happenstance that selecting print layout, moving the image onto the page and then printing from there (using the toolbar icon) worked flawlessly.

Go figure

This issue is fixed in PSP 2019 without any Windows Updates or driver updates for my HP printer. If it works in 2019 64-bit and not in 2018 64-bit, then—everything else being equal—the issue lies in the 2018 64-bit code.

PSP 2019 64-bit

I suddenly got this message. I only have a network printer and was going to print to PDF. I have never seen this message before today. Other programs print to the printer and PDF just fine.

Despite what my specs say to the right, this is Windows 10 on a very nice, expensive Lenovo laptop. One of those carbon fiber jobs.
