I'm working on a 600 DPI, 6450 x 4740 px, 8 bits. That is not huge. Still just fixing a typo takes a whole hour, as in 60 minutes.

Can we please have GPU support too?

First, the PPI (not DPI because graphic programs don't have the ability to deal with DPI which is a printer function) of an image does not affect the file size of an image or have any other effect on editing the image itself. The relevant information you left out was the actual size of the file. If you look at Image>Image Information it will show you the size of the file on disc as well as the size in RAM, which might be helpful.

I have an image open in PSP2018 64bit of a quite busy Christmas scene (decorated tree, busy decorated fireplace, etc) that is 6450 x 4740, 8bit/channel. It is in .pspimage format and about 58meg on disc and 212 meg in RAM according to Image Information. (It's over 90meg on disc saved as an uncompressed TIF file but still the same size in RAM when opened). I have laid down several lines of vector text on several layers. I have no problems editing any of the text in real time. So if correcting a typo is taking a hour then I suspect that you must have other problems.

Hey Joe.

Big thanks for detailed feedback.

Yes, I meant PPI.

My image is 64 MB on SSD as shown in Windoes Explorer. It's a .pspimage file with LZ77 compression.

Current Image Information dialogue says:

PPI: 600
Layers: 79
On disk: 63.678 K
In RAM: 1.831.869 K

Then I can't help with what might be causing your problem because those specs are easily close to those of my test pspimage file, including the compression algorithm, and I don't have an issue at all and I doubt others would have with that size image. I hate to suggest a complete uninstall of PSP (using the cleanup tool and saving your workspace) and reinstall but that might be your only choice. If you do that, try the image in the new install BEFORE restoring your saved workspace and see how that works. If it works fine then restore your saved workspace and try again. If that works then you're good to go. If that slows things down again then there is an issue with something in your saved workspace and you'll have to start customizing your workspace from scratch.

I've had this problem for about 27 years, with all versions of PSP. I started on JASC PSP3. My computer specs are good. A solution to this problem is almost unthinkable for me after all these years. But all comments and suggestions are very, very welcome.

In that case it's not going to do you any good to use this wishlist to ask for Corel to fix it because it's definitely not that kind of a problem for anyone else - and certainly not the vast, vast majority of people who have been using PSP since the Jasc days. :-)

I notice that he has 79 layers of a 6540 x 4740 image. Is that not like loading 79 images each 6540 x 4740 pixels and doesn't PSP usually complain if you load more than 10 images at a time? Could the problem be there? Is there a need to maintain 79 layers, what happens if you merge most of those layers and get down to only say 10 layers . Is there an improvement in the text operations?

I guess I missed the number of layers part of the post. Given that file size can't be the issue, it could be the layers causing the problem - maybe cached somehow and just too much information??

No nag screen randomly reminding us of offers when the program is not loaded. Speed up the program launch.

I think I've disabled the nag program and it causes me to launch the program twice (once for it to ensure the nag/license check is loaded) and it's taking about a minute to open.

I don't think there are any layers that can be merged without causing the document to be even harder to maintain. But I shall think about that.

Thanks for all input guys! Appreciated. I'll be back with more details and thoughts.

Then you could also consider dragging the layer on which you want to lay down your text into the workspace as a separate image, closing the layered image, laying down your text on the dragged out layer, opening the layered image again, and moving the dragged out layer and new vector text layer back into position on to the layered image.

What type of image is it that it needs 79 layers? Just curious....

Awesome suggestion! Thank you. I will try that.

This is the "image":

I'll probably have to start all over in Adobe Illustrator.

I guess that explains why all the layers! :-)

If my suggestion actually works (i.e., if trying to add the dragged out layer and vector text layer back into the full layered image doesn't also take a hour) please let us know and I may refine that suggestion a bit further. :-) The only reason I'm thinking that it might work is that (a) your complaint had to do with slow reaction using the text tool, not with other stuff you might be doing with the image, and (b) my experience with all versions of PSP is that the Text tool is the slowest tool in the toolbox for some reason.

Yeah. Text tool is the worst part of PaintShop Pro. Bad kerning issue, block-align does not work at all, formatting must be done inside each text block, etc. How would anyone actually decide to sit down and code something like that?

But everything takes forever on a project of this (relatively small) size in PaintShop Pro.

It's small in file size but has many more layers than most people would have. So rather than file size being the issue, it could be how PSP manages layers.
