Paid version of WinDVD Pro 11 will only run as administrator

...as above. I upgraded from the trial version to the full version after I convinced myself that I had got it working and nicely integrated into WMC. However the full version will not run under a standard user account. Clicking the icon seemingly does nothing but if you watch in Task Manager the WinDVD.EXE process runs for about a second before dissappearing.

Running as admin always works. This is totally different to the trial version. Obviously I don't want to give my admin password to anyone who wants to watch a DVD!

I wonder if this is a glitch in the installer? The installer always asks for an admin password (as it should under the UAC). Maybe it thinks I am installing it under an admin account?

Another thing, I doawloaded the SP5 update but when I run it, it I just get a message saying "You must first install WinDVD 11 Pro" which of course I have.

Glad I have 30 days free tech support. Off to raise a ticket...

OK, I seem to have fixed this myself.

Went through the registry and removed as many references to WinDVD as I could, then re-installed. The installer asks for two file locations, one for the main programme which goes in C:\Program files (x86)\Corel\WinDVD and the other which normally defaults to C:\Program data\sMedio... which is a hidden location. I changed the latter to go in my user home area.

Either there was a borked registry setting, or one of the default file locations was protected somehow. Anyway - it works. Now I have to go tell the Corel "Tech Support" guy who is "handling" my ticket what I have done.

Hi,
I posted a similar query on June 14, 2016, about being unable to install the full version of WinDVD 11, and since then have removed all references to WinDVD in the registry, but am still getting installation failures. I've asked tech support but no fix so far. I've just read your posting about the second folder, sMedio, which I've now located in my C:Program Data folder, as you described. What do you mean by "changing it" to go into your "user home area"? Sorry, I don't have a clue.
Thanks,
RMS1
