"play all Option"

Postby dannyp » Wed Jul 01, 2009 4:49 pm

Hi All

Once again I'm here to try and figure out the "play All" option.

What ever I do, be it arranging a "play List" or assigning a special
button or text to the "Play All" option here is what happens:

If I hit the first title and the DVD starts to play and I do not skip titles
the dvd will play all the way till the end while showing all titles iin the disc.
But, if I start to play a title and skip to the next title and let it play,at the end of this current title the DVD takes me back to the menu.

I'm using DWS since it was puplishd and never managed to figure out
this stuff.

Thanks all

Does this help?

Image

Concentrate on the behaviour of "Title 2" which behaves in a similar manner to the "Play All Button" but the difference will be that after completing "Title 1" it moves on to "Title 2" and then "Title 3".

The above flow chart is taken from the VideoStudio Tutorial
Authoring a DVD..
Time constraints prevent me from being able to create another similar flow chart for the "Play All" button but hopefully illustrates the logic.

"play all"

Hi Steve

Thanks for your quich response but the chart doen not help me.

In the current DVD I'm authoring there are no chapters at all.
The DVD contains 20 titles, around 3 minutes each.
On the first menu I placed 12 titles and on the second menu I placed
8 titles.
I created 20 playlists in which the first one contains all 20 titles and return to menu. The second playlist contains the second title followed by remaining 18 titles and the return to menu.
The 3rd playlist has 17 titles and so on till the last play list which contains
the last title and return to menu.
I created a Text button and assigned to it the "Play all" option.

If I play the DVD by selecting the first title and I do not tuch the remote
The DVD will play all titles one by one but...
If in any given time during playback I skip a Title, the next title will play
and the DVD will return to the menu at the end of the title I skiped to
and this is my problem.
I do not want the DVD returning to the menu as long as it plays unless
I select the menu button on the remote control or if the DVD reached the last title.

if I keep skipping titles and I do not let one of them to end I can skip
all titles without returning to the menu unless I reched the last title.

I want the DVD to behave like when I author a DVD on "Sonic MyDVD" in
which all titles will play till the last one even if I skip titles or what ever I choose to do as long as I did not select the"menu"button on the remote.

I hope this clarifies things and you will be able to help me.
Thanks again
Danny

...the first one contains all 20 titles and return to menu...
Does this first button work correctly? This should work exactly like the Play All button, right? If that button works correctly, you can make an identical playlist and link it to the Play All Text-button. Do the other buttons work correctly?

If in any given time during playback I skip a Title, the next title will play and the DVD will return to the menu at the end of the title I skiped to and this is my problem.
I assume you're using the >>| button on the remote to "skip", right? Try putting a chapter marker (without a menu link) at the end of each title. Then, when you hit the >>| button, you'll jump to that chapter, and since you're at the end of the title, the playlist should take control and start the next title.

BTW - In my experience, the >>| button just skips between chapters (not between titles) and doesn't do anything if there are no more remaining chapters in the current title. But, you are apparently getting different behavior. :? It might depend on the DVD player, but in any case, a chapter point at the end of the title might fix the problem.....

My problem is that none of the buttons work correctly on any DVD player
and more than that,If I play the DVD on the comp. using WMP and if I skip
to the next title the dvd will go back to the menu at the end of this title.
If I do not touch any button on the remote control the DVD plays correctly
moving from title to title according to the playlists.

Putting a Chapter point at the most end of each titles is nice but not practical because it is an instructional DVD and if the display on the TV
might confuse the user because he thinks that he skips to the next tiltle but he will see a difrent number.

From my expirience using DVD players and I had quite a few,the >>l button always skips titles too.

I authored hundreds of DVD on WS and never figured out why I get this behavior which does not accure with other DVD authoring software.

Thanks

Workshop does have some limitations, and since it's no longer sold or supported, we will all have to upgrade to something else eventually.

I don't see why that's so confusing... For about one second, they will see "Title1, Chapter 2", and then "Title 2, Chapter 1" will show up. And, that assumes they are watching the DVD player's display rather than the actual DVD.

I frequently add "extra" chapters that don't have any menu reference just so that I can make better use of the |<< and >>| buttons on the remote. I never really worry about the chapter numbers. As long as the menu buttons link to the correct scene, it doesn't matter (to me) if there are extra chapters thrown-in.

Let's say you had an instructional DVD with slightly longer titles, and let's assume each title has an introduction, a main section, and a summary... You might want to add chapters for the start of the main section, and a chapter for the summary (and perhaps one at the very end). That would allow the viewer to skip-around between the intro, main, and summary, even though you might not have a menu button for each of these sections.

I will take your sugestion and add a chapter to each title but I'm almost sure that the DVD's behavior will not change since it happens only when
I hit the >>l during playback.

In any case thank you for your time and effort.
