Gaps in timeline

Postby zehavi » Sat May 25, 2019 3:43 pm

Hello,
When I open one of my projects, I found out that there is some black gaps in the timeline. Not all the clips are connected to each other so I am not able to continue working in this project.
I am using VideoStudio Ultimate 2018 on Windows 10.
Any suggestion what could be the reason?
Thanks, Abraham

This is a new ""Improvement"" added by Corel into VS2019 - there is nothing wrong it is the way Corel designed VS2019 to work - although they should not move once you have put them where you want them - the gaps should not stop you playing the project or carrying on with editing - but unless you close them up you will just get a blank screen at the black places

there is no automatic way of closing the gaps you just have to slide each clip to the left until it touches the previous one - some people are finding it easier to ignore the top track completely and just use overlay tracks where you can place your clips any where and they will stay where put

VS2018 doesn't leave gaps on the Video track, so are you using an Overlay track? If you don't want gaps when ensure that you're putting your images and video clips on the Video track (see image).

Thank you BJC and tletter,
I have tried to slide the clips to the left until they touched the previous ones, but unfortunately I find out that some of the footage disappeared.
I would like also to emphasis that in this project I was not using overlay tracks at all.

We need to see a screenshot of your problem.

VS 2018 does not allow gaps so we can't understand where those gaps are coming from. Are those gaps "occupied" by some transitions?

They're not black color mattes, are they?

Perhaps it's a corrupt VSP as VS2018 doesn't normally act as you describe. However, you're not posting an image to help people understand what you're doing.

Well, that's obviously not a black color matte! But they are color clips which you can insert into a project as background to, say, a title. They can be found in the little icon in the list to the immediate right of the preview screen which looks like a rectangle with a flower on it (below the T for Title in your image).

I've only seen this in VS2018 when the VSP has corruption. You could try: exporting this project to an earlier version of VS, e.g. VS10 and then opening it VS2018; manually dragging the clips to close-up the gaps; or re-creating your project.
