Hey all, I have transferred old VHS tapes and trying to squeeze more content per 8.5gb DVD. 3 hours require 12gb. Roxio does this easily but I hate it. Am I missing something somewhere? My project settings are DVD at 4:3.

A standard DVD holds 4.3 Gb ( 4.7Gb) of data
The data rate of the video controls the size and ultimately the quality
Using 8000kbps (full quality) will allow for approx. 70 minutes of video provided you use Digital Dolby audio.
At 6000kbps (good quality) you should get 90 minutes per disc
And 4000kbps 120 minutes at VHS quality
Your image shows 93 minutes using 3000kbps ish

Open your project
You should set your project properties to :-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 480, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 5000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

To check what the VS burner will do
Share Disc DVD
Your project will show within the burner as a temp VSP.
Choose a Menu Template – Thumbnail or Text will be best.
The Green bar will indicate the final size.
If it shows any red, far to large and will not fit
If it shows any yellow may fit but I would reduce the data rate
Select the Project Settings Cogwheel – Change Mpeg settings – Customise – Compression tab- change the Video Data rate
Ok to close panel to view green bar again - repeat above changing the data rate if still yellow.
Once you have found the correct data rate you can return to the timelines to modify the project Settings choosing the data rate accordingly.
Render the project to Same as Project settings should create a Mpeg2 DVD Compliant video file below 4.3 Gb which will fit to disc
Play to check quality – then burn a disc using this file.
To burn a disc
Start a new project to clear the timelines
Share Disc DVD – opens the burner module
Adding your Mpeg2 video file – top left Add Media – Add Video Files.

You mention 3 hours of video, that will require a data rate of approx 3000kbps, quality may be an issue, you will be best to use 2 discs
