Not sure what you mean, I have a 4K 3840x2160 monitor, set to 150% zoom and VS2018 is perfectly usable, but I am using a 28"monitor and if I set it to 200% zoom, then it is a lot better than standard HD 1929x1080
You probably will have issues if your 4K monitor is only 15"

Robert, thanks for your reply. Is the image in my first post useful, or is it too small to illustrate my problem? (the forum restricts images to 950 px in width)

I've posted the full res image to: https://imgur.com/a/nV5VPJ3? <- take a look and please let me know if the issue is still not clear in that screenshot.

I guess at the heart of my problem is that all the file menus, dialogs, etc. in VideoStudio don't seem to respect the Windows scaling settings well. With 4K resolution scaled to 200%, everything else in Windows 10 scales and operates as it would on a 1080 resolution screen, agreed? You've essentially increased the resolution but the scaling is reduced in half to make sizing the same as it would be at 100% in 1080.

Old Adobe software (CS5 and below) suffered from the same problem, but they corrected it years ago in newer releases. I was also able to download an alternate manifest file to make Adobe programs scale correctly to 4K screens, but have not found a similar patch file for VideoStudio. Let me know if what I'm talking about still doesn't make sense?

I can see your scaling issue, but I do not have that problem, this is my 4K screen set to 200% and as you can see, scaling is correct

While reading all of these feedback you have given, what is your feeling of seeing them to come a reality?

Have you written the official support cases from them? I generated around 10 incidents and customer handling was not so nice. I really get a feeling I'm the lowest grab on their levels  Six months and no feedback from them. Perhaps my latest message was not the the one of the nice one, but I still feel that the feedback I gave before that (like how to run VideoStudio without admin credentials) where useful and could increase their quality from end user point of view.

One new idea to this list of course could be a Linux version.

Also, I have hard to see the benefits to have two products on the same company: VideoStudio and Pinnacle Studio. Perhaps they do have two totally separated teams, but is it really so they cannot merge these products into one?

Hello Pepi,

Staff from Corel do visit and read these boards. Threads such as this definitely get picked up.

Some of the ideas may take a little longer to be fully developed. I don't know how they specifically operate but I do know from elsewhere that ideas are heard and prioritised. They are then placed in the cooking pot with the development ideas which they were already working on and a suitable list of ideas are put together for the next release and others are either tabled for other releases or quietly placed on hold.

There are quite a few things that I would love to see in VS and posted one such list in the Wishlist for VS 2018. Needless to say, most of them didn't make it.

It would be nice if VS were made available on other platforms. I put together a course earlier this year and had to research a number of different NLEs as not everyone had a Windows-based computer. Thankfully the nature of the course meant that I wasn't too worried about the extra features in any of them, just the basics but each NLE works slightly differently so I needed to familiarise myself with the basics of each. Another Instructor on the course happened to be qualified to teach Adobe products, so we were covered there for the Apple users.

I too have asked the question about amalgamating VS and PS. It would be no mean feat, I understand. Both work quite differently when it comes to the editing process. They are aimed at different points of the market. The basic features are the same in all the different versions, with a few look and feel differences between VS & PS, but then the basic features should be available in all the different NLEs. There are some new features which have been added over time which generally appear first on PS. They are often added to VS later and sometimes also find their way to Roxio NXT, another Corel product.

Perhaps one day they will merge VS & PS but I don't believe that it is on the cards just now. How you edit videos within each product is a little too different for some people and it is likely that many people loyal to one would not like the results when they are merged. IIRC a lot of people left VS soon after Corel initially bought it as their first full update was quite different from the previous version. Sure VS is now considerably better than what Corel stated with, but it was enough to upset people at that time.

Never say never, but I wouldn't say it is likely just now.

Get a decent update procedure. The present one is terrible. You wait and wait and wait.

Corel doesn't release their updates with the same regularity as companies such as M$. The current version of VS 2018 (21.4.0.165) was released in November.

Typically I've seen one or two in the first few months after each new version has been released. Then, after a few months have passed, another update. After which there may be one more in the first year.

Unless there is a major issue affecting the performance or a security issue is discovered, it's unlikely that they'll rush out a new update within a version. I suspect that the next release with be the next whole version of VideoStudio.

About updates... @pepegota perhaps had the same issue like I did, the VS did not informed that new update is available even I had "Auto-check for updates daily". My version was 21.2.xxx Now when you wrote about November update I test it manually, and surprise, there was an update available. If my eyes totally failed I saw a text "SP4", but when looking for the official site: https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/support/updates/ it still says: "VideoStudio 2018 Update 3" and "Released: 2018-07-23".

So perhaps we could say, the update process either is not working so well.

And I wish there could be a release notes available, even some parts...

A "Color Grading" system as in the new Pinnacle Studio 22. The present system is out of date and needs upgrading.

Please bring back the SmartSound plugin!! Smartsound brought a level of professionalism that just isn't matched with the cheezy ScoreFitter MIDI files.

I am sure that others would appreciate it and more might be encouraged to share their respective results with other cameras and not just the GoPros...

Use NewBlue FX Color Fast. That's why it's there. The bad part of owning two competing NLEs is that you can't just rip out the good parts of each and add to the other. They increasingly become indistinguishable over time.

VS is a low end consumer NLE. Some of its weaknesses are covered by the Effects Bundle in the Ultimate Version (Titling, Motion Graphics, Color Correction/Grading, etc.). Pinnacle is a Mid-Range Prosumer Editor. They're designed for different markets, and a lot of the people who use VS wouldn't know what to do with color wheels or scopes, anyways...

With the way the pricing works out, the people who want that are better off just buying Pinnacle Studio Ultimate.

Present system (in-built functionalitiy) in VideoStudio is similar to what is on offer in a lot of other low end, consumer NLEs - iMovie, Movie Edit Pro, etc. Not out of date, you just want or need more. Those options exist :-P Feature Requests should factor in the target market and overall design goals of the application being discussed.
