continue editing .vsp files

continue editing .vsp files

Postby senseix2 » Thu Dec 25, 2014 10:27 am

Hello,
I've just got Corel VideoStudio ProX7 for Christmas.
I worked on a project for a while and saved (.vsp) when tired.
In my second session I intended to continue editing the same project so I opened the saved .vsp file.
It opened as a single file in the video track dragged to timeline.
I'd like to make some changes as I'm learning editing features.
I'd like to know how to split again to corresponding tracks (video, audio, title) so I can adjust some things and keep editing.
Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure why you didn't post this in the Video Studio forum since that is what your question is about. So I have moved it there, since you are likely to get more responses in the correct forum.

I'll start the ball rolling by suggesting that it sounds as though you are doing something wrong in open your vsp file. Normally, you would go to to File > Open Project... in VS. That should then, when you have navigated to the vsp file, open the project file, and all its various clips, transitions, added audio etc, in the timeline and overlay tracks. Did you do it that way, or did you somehow either drag and drop the vsp file into the VS library window and/or timeline? If you did it that way, all you will get is a single file...

Hello

Yes it will do that if you drag a .vsp to the timeline - that is one of the very useful assets of VideoStudio when you want to join a number of projects together into one.

BUT

when you are in the middle of editing you should always go to "File >> Open Project" and browse to the project - select it and OK .

OR click on "File" and choose your project from the recent file list at the bottom of the drop down

using either of those will put every thing back as you left it and you can continue editing.

So when you finish for the day "File >> Save" When you want to continue work "File >> open Project"

It is also quite a good idea to do a "File >> Save As" now and again giving it a slightly different name - add a number or something - this will provide back ups should something terrible happen - when you next want to edit remember to choose the latest project

Hi

Welcome to the forums

Project files VSP’s can be saved as backward compatible for two versions, you could save the X5 using X5 as X4 version.
That would open using X4.----That’s if you had X5 installed.???????
Later versions should be able open all VSP,s made with earlier versions.

Options:-
1 / You could download the trial version X7 then open the project to complete editing.

2 / Zip your VSP and attach to your post, I will open and resave for X4 for you, that should work.
However for you to open the vsp to edit all clips used in the project need to be available on the notepad.
Regards Trevor

For some reasons Corel gave up the support of the older vsp files. The VS X7 is the last version which can open the former VSP files, while VS X8 or newer cannot open the vsp files created by VS X7.

I have no trouble at all in opening .vsp from X6 or X7 in X9 they all open without problem

it is my understanding that some users have had problems opening old project files if they have applied speed changes to the videos - when you get a relink error - but cannot re-link - in such cases loading the original without speed change then apply the speed change

just tried one from X5 which also opened flawlessly in X9

I did not tried the X9 yet, but the X8 failed to open the old VSP-s.
Yesterday I consulted with Corel, they could not confirm the compatibility. It is good to hear, that the VS X9 works again.

:-)

Does have the VS X9 also the same transitions and efx what is included in the VS X7? As I remember it was one of the conflicts on VS X8.
