Hi

Welcome to the forums

If the program has worked in the past what have you changed on the PC?
-----------------------
Try re-setting the program to its factory default

000011404 - Resetting VideoStudio Pro X4 to Factory Defaults

Note:-
My laptop runs 64bit.Windows 7
I have to run Video Studio in "XP compatibility mode" otherwise i get problems with the library links?

oh just realised when after installing the software update on corel's website i get this message:

The installed version of the application could not be determined. The set up will terminate.
The system has not been modified. To install the programme at a later date run installation again.

Well tried that no luck still.

Hi

Video Studio X4 as far as I can remember was updated to include Service Pack 1.
You should only need to install SP2, unless you have a very old/original version.

If the service packs have been installed or not required the installation will be terminated, displaying the message you received.

It would be better if the message simply said "Already Installed"

The version number for X4 with all patches installed is 14.2.0.23. at least that’s what I see.

Try re-installing using 000005470 - How to manually remove VideoStudio Pro X4?

Hi

Very Strange

You say the problem started on the 8th July

Have you tried System Restore to revert the PC back to the 7th July.
I have to say that I do not like using this option as it always seems to cause other problems, at least for me.
But you cannot have changed much in the last few days so there will be little change

Something similar to this happened to me last July. I am using ProX4 Ultimate. From working perfectly it would not open. I would get the orange VideoStudio Start up screen then the message "Corel VideoStudio has stopped working" and it would close down. Several attempts to uninstall and reinstall did not resolve the problem. I asked the local PC repairers to see if they could resolve it and they couldn't either. Eventually had to wipe the whole laptop - Windows 7 Home Premium - and start again. Touch wood, since then it has worked fine.

It is not the first time that happens to me, where the corel video studio pro x4 stops working, and there is no solution without the computer is completely formatted.
is very important that corel investigate these situations because I think there is a serious bug in corel video studio pro X4 with win7 home premium 64 bit. I am seriously considering leaving the corel video studio because of this problem. it is very expensive to have to format your computer every time corel video studio prox4 stops working.

I've been searching the web and combing over this forum and this post seems to most accurately reflect the issue that I've run into with my videostudio pro x4. Here is the error message I get at the launch of videostudio in its entirety:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BEX
Application Name: vstudio.exe
Application Version: 14.0.0.0
Application Timestamp: 4ec5d8d8
Fault Module Name: StackHash_0a9e
Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0
Fault Module Timestamp: 00000000
Exception Offset: 2e4074e0
Exception Code: c0000005
Exception Data: 00000008
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033
Additional Information 1: 0a9e
Additional Information 2: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789
Additional Information 3: 0a9e
Additional Information 4: 0a9e372d3b4ad19135b953a78882e789

Any help is greatly appreciated. I've also got a bunch of .dmp files that the program seems to generate after each failed attempt, if those are of any help. Thanks again!

Hi Alan

Welcome to the forums........

Unfortunately we are unable to read the DMP error messages, if we could I doubt that we would be able to interpret them correctly.

Some things to consider........
I do notice that X4 version shows as 14.0.0.0, to me indicating that the update packs have not been installed, my version shows as 14.1.0.126, however I would not expect this to cause errors.
-----------------------

Some users have had problem crashes using Quick Time----reverting to an earlier version has cured some issues, X4 as far as i know provides QT 7.5.5
Uninstall QT and install http://support.apple.com/kb/DL26

--------------------------
Libraries

These can easily get full of corrupt with un-linked files which can cause problems.
reset the library to its default state, If you wish first Export the library as a backup, just in case you wish to re-import.
-------------------------
Reset the program to its default state..............

Rename the folder 14.0 to "14.0 old"
When you start X4 a new folder/files will be created.

The folder is located here for XP, I assume a similar location for W7, within the Documents structure.
C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro

Hope this Helps

I am having the same problem as X4 suddenly stopped working properly in Aug 2012. I started with me not being able to add text (caption) to a clip. Even after setting 14.0 to 14.0_old uninstalling and re-installing X4.
I then did a System Repair to revert the system files with formatting the C; drive where the system files were located. Reinstalling X4 went fine but now I cannot open X4. I got the same error messages as "kabdriver" and "ianwoody123", except that the Fault Module Name is "VXCoder.dll_unloaded".

To change 14.0 to 14.0_old in windows 7 you can do:
1. Start ---> type in %appdata% in the Search window below
2. In the Roaming Windows that opens browse to the ULead Systems folder and click it
3. (double) click the Corel VideoStudio PRO folder where you find the 14.0 listed

Hi, lata.
Follow up info on my X4 problem (program encountered error and need to close down). Just out of curiosity I booted up the computer in Safe Mode with Network Services, and X4 did open. My other post in the Forum about the sudden problem with me not being able to add text directly to a clip (double clicking Preview Window) also disappear, in other words in Safe Mode I was able to add text to clips. Knowing that VS X4 works under Safe Mode but cannot be opened in Normal Mode, do you have any suggestions where I should look now to re-set settings or deleting certain types of "interfering" software? Thanks
Bimbing
