Windows 7 updates have introduced a new Firewire driver which cannot be used by Video Studio. You need to go into Control Panel > Device Manager, and select IEEE1394. Right click it and select Properties, then the Driver tab on the dialogue box which appears. Select 'Roll back driver' and click the downward pointing arrow. There should be something like OHCI legacy driver. Select that and click OK. (I'm sorry I can't be more accurate about the language, but I am currently using an Android tablet and so do not have VS or Windows in front of me...)

You could also as an alternative do what a lot of us here do, and that is use a small freeware program called WinDV to capture with. You can find it at windv.mourek.cz

Well, have you tried using, as I suggested, WinDV? If that doesn't work as well, then it is a problem with your system and not with the individual programs like Video Studio...

I've now opened one of my computers which has a firewire connection and uses Windows 7. One other thing you can try is as follows:

1- Open Device Manager

2- Expand the "IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers" node in the device tree by double clicking.

3- Select the Driver tab and the click the Update driver button.

4- Select "Browse my computer for driver software"

5- Select "let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer ..." and Check the box before “Show compatible hardware”.

6. Choose the second option--- "1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller (Legacy)", and click next to update the driver.

If three programmes don't work adn you have a driver installed it sounds like you have a hardware problem, either the cable or one of hte firewire ports on cam/pc is broken.

Find a pc/cable/cam that works and test your items with these to find out what is faulty.

Hi

How many drivers do you see when you view the Device Manager IEE1394 Bus.....

Un-install all all except the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller

Right click the 1394 OHCI Compliant Host Controller and select "Scan for Hardware Changes"

I have just carries out this operation, a new driver was installed that allowed me to capture, by the way i am using XP.

Hi

I don’t understand your reference to "see no HDV record "

There is another poster with a similar problem,
The first image shows the Device Manager with reference to the IEEE 1394 and Imaging Devices showing the camera......

What do you see when viewing your device manager?

Hi sorry

I assumed the post was from tousabloc, the original poster.

I also assume tousabloc is not using HD but standard Mini-DV
