so are you telling us the screen capture in VS is no good Abiel and we shouldn't use it ?

Your work around does not solve the problem that the screen capture does not work for quite a few people.

Youtube was just an example.. the sreen capture doesn't work on anything for me

Hi

Capturing a video using X5 screen capture will produce a 15fps video. Now that's not what I would call high quality.
Perfect for what it is intended as a screen capture to create tutorials.

If you convert to 25/29fps then you are gonna see a quality reduction, its not really designed to rip video.

But thats not the problem, for e_a_g_l_e_p_i it just does not work.

e_a_g_l_e_p_i I assume your monitor screen resolution is set correctly?

I am also having issues with the screen capture. It seems that no matter what I try and record the record button itself stays greyed out and recording isn't even an option for me. Not sure what i'm doing wrong.

Hi e_a_g_l_e_p_i

I noticed from your screen shot that the window was displayed as 135%, however this should not be an issue as I have tried with several zoom options, recording ok

Have you changed the desktop display/resolution in any way to enlarge the screen?

Hi whiskeyportal / e_a_g_l_e_p_i

Very strange

Can you try resetting the program to its default state. This will also reset the library.
If you wish to use the older set-up simply rename the folders again.

The instructions are for X4 but a similar folder for X5 will exist

Hi lata
I reset x5 to default with the same results. I did receive a warning message on initial start up of the program telling me that my GPU may have issues displaying title graphics and i should consider upgrading my video card. Maybe that's the problem? Thanks

Hi

Sorry but i do not know about your graphics card or whether it is suitable.
Maybe other users can comment here.

Are you using the pc as administrator and running Video Studio as admimistrator.

e_a_g_l_e_p_i - Not sure why you're trying to capture a video off of Youtube. You can download any video using free software download software.

Then, editing what you've downloaded would seem to be a much easier process.

PM me and I can tell you the name of the software (Not supposed to mention other software titles on the forums. :) )

Good luck,

Hi LGO

No problems in mentioning other software to help members, in fact there is a list of useful program under General Information & Downloads
In view of the last posters comments I will check out the links, given time that is.

However some members feel they can use the forums as an advertising platform, most registering just for that purpose, they are removed on their first post.

As for capturing You Tube, the X5 program only captures to 15 fps, not really suitable for quality video, downloading must be a better option.
e_a_g_l_e_p_i' problem is not just you tube but any type of screen capture other than full screen.

Hi, Lata and e_a_g_l_e_p_i . . .

The free software I use to download entire Youtube videos is DVDVideosoft. http://www.dvdvideosoft.com/ It can download either the full video in its highest resolution (sometimes 720p) as well as download just the audio - your choice. It's got beaucoup other things it can do, but those two are the only things I use it for.

Thanks for the heads up about being able to post software to help other members. Don't want to be considered a spammer!

Having said that, I've been using the software for about 3 years now with no problems. So much easier and better to edit the complete video than a screen capture!

They do update the software often, but I think that has more to do with Youtube changing or tweaking things. For a while it seemed like there was a new update every month (2 years ago) and you weren't able to download without updating. Again, I think that was more to do with Youtube changing stuff up than anything else.

To use the software, just fire it up and cut & paste the Youtube URL into the entry form (you can insert many video URLs into the form for a single download) and click *download*. That's it!

Good luck!

From my other post that just got locked :

When I try to record my screen using the built in screen capture tool I always get the error "Prepare Record Failed!!! #42"
This error happens all the time, changing the screen or the settings don't work.

The main reason I decided to upgrade from X3 was for the fact that using Cam studio started to error out all the time even after reinstalls thinking I'm buying both Screen recording software and an upgrade to my video software again (Finding that it also removed the rubbish DVD utility I hated in x3 after coming from Ulead video studio 11)

Everything else works fine, I can burn DVDs, Render videos in 1080p HD in shorter times than x3.

Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

Hi
If other Screen Capture programs are also having problems (Cam studio) then I would suspect something wrong with the PC rather than the corel software program.

Have you tried un-installing other screen capture programs, just in case there is some conflict?

The error still happens even after uninstalling the camstudio, Camstudios errors I was guessing was from where the software has not been updated since 2010.

I don't see how my computer is the error, it has all the latest drivers and recently has had an upgrade to an new motherboard and 16GB of ram (From 4gb) Cam studio has been erroring out since windows 7 from where it has not been updated in a long time.

If you need any computer information please ask.
