I have a found an alternative to Photo Impact

Postby pmedia on Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:10 pm

Well the alternative is right here: http://www.pixelmator.com

Pixelmator 2 is modern, smooth, quick, has a good look, and very easy to figure out. I now use it to do all my tasks and I am still learning a lot more.
Oops it is a MAC ONLY software.

Photo Impact is still a great program as I use it to design my websites. This is my website which was created with Photo Impact 12:

I still think that PaintShop Pro X4 is a better alternative. It does all that PI does and more.

When is PSP going to be ready for MAC use? It's really what is holding me back from buying this program.

Nobody but Corel can give a definitive answer to that. But it appears they are dropping the product altogether in favour of PSP. So I guess it is highly unlikely that will now produce a version for Mac.

Can you give us a link to where they are selling a version with 'Pro' in the label? The Corel.com website only lists the vanilla version, and that has been there now for 2 or 3 years. Nor have we ever had any suggestion that the program was being resuscitated. Moreover, if they did revive it, it would likely be called PI X4, and not use the now very old X3 label...

I think they are talking about the one sold by Nova Development. It looks similar to PI but that's all I know. If it's just a name-sake, an actual recreation, or a pirated copy is impossible for me to say.

Yes, found it. http://www.novadevelopment.com/software ... y-software

Thanks Levi! But as you say, impossible to tell. I might ask my contacts in Corel what they know...

As primarily a VideoStudio user a true Photo Impact alternative would need to be able to edit .ufo files from the original PI and VS - maybe it's me, but I couldn't find a list of supported file types on the Nova website.

Corel tell me they license Nova for their own PI package. So it is Nova which has added the Pro, not Corel. And again I have no idea if Nova made any other changes to the package before they on-sell it...

I will buy PhotoImpact 13 PRO next week. Most indications are that it supports UFO files and the software is structured the same way as Uleads PhotoImpact. In any case PhotoImpact 13 PRO is better than PhotoShop Elements. I need an image editor as PhotoImpact 12 for my work. Corel offers a less attractive alternative but still better than PhotoShop Elements. I will take a chance on PhotoImpact 13 PRO because I need PhotoImpact that works with Windows 7.

Nice to have a guinea pig. It will be interesting to see if there is any difference between 'our' PI 13 and theirs. Mind you, if you don't already have 'our version, I am not sure you will be in any position to make such a judgment...

I have PhotoImpact 12, great software. I also have Photoshop Elements (an overrated software) and tried Corel's Paint Shop Pro X4. I cross my fingers!

I found a review to pixelmator 2 that should give some good insight as to the features, pros, and cons of it. Read through this and see what you think. http://mac.appstorm.net/reviews/graphic ... impressed/
