Gathering info about crashes

Postby Dutchmm on Fri Feb 17, 2012 7:19 am

As this forum is (at least ATM) English only, there is another forum for the French speakers, at least those who used to/still use Bibble 5 Pro.

On that forum, there is a discussion about crashes, under Windows 7, 64-bit. Not all the 64 bit W7 users are experiencing this crash. It could be related to bezier curves, loads of layers, or perhaps to an AMD Phenom (as opposed to Intel) processor. It doesn't look as though it relates to NVidia drivers.

As I understand it, the user who is suffering most from this problem has filled in all the survey monkey forms, and has been deafened by the silence of Corel's response. So I am appealing to the English language users to tell me when they are seeing users. You will understand that as I am a Linux user I am unable to reproduce these crashes on any of my computers...

AFX, if you read this, is there any way we can log ASP and get it to report the reason for the crash?

Thanks in advance

Mike

There is this new file upload address that might be useful to deliver the crashdumps:
http://aftershotpro.com/AfterShotUploader/
Swamp them with the crash dumps....
That hopefully will allow them to find the problem.

@AFX

Thanks so much for this new address. What (if anything) does the crash sufferer need to do to generate the crash information?

Check the Crashlog directory in the AS user directory. There are usually 4 files per crash. ZIP them and upload them with a description of what was going on when the crash happened.

I have ASP 1.0.0.39 on Win7 64-bit and I have had quite a few crashes with only light use. I haven't detected a pattern as to when it will crash because it crashes for what seem to be random unknown reasons. A couple of weeks ago I totally stopped using ASP because it is the buggiest software I have ever installed on a computer. Lots of other bugs with ASP too. Corel needs to seriously work on fixing bugs because I am not going to waste anymore of my time being an unpaid QA person for them. I have submitted many bug reports, but I am tired of it. Oh, of course, not a single response of any kind to any of my bug reports. Not even a thanks.

I suppose I must consider myself fortunate to be a Linux user. It is rock solid - the only crash I had was self induced - when I tried to POP one more undo action off the stack than it contained.

Not that it helps, but I have found ASP to be far more stable than Bibble 5 on my Win7 64-bit machine. MUCH faster load time, and so far no crashes (knock on wood...).

Most of the crashes I've experienced with ASP are the same as with Bibble: When doing multiple catalog imports at the same time, and browsing+editing shots while the imports are still running.
Since I've stopped doing that, ASP hardly ever crashes on me.

I'm currently running Ubuntu 11.10, but a friend using Windows has reported the same behavior.

I hadn't realised it was possible to do multiple catalog imports - as opposed to importing a single hierarchy of directories into a single catalog in the same job. I will give that a shot and see whether it generates a crash on my system. I thought I had already browsed the first shots of an import - one's wife/girlfriendSO is always so impatient, but I will try it again to see whether I can generate any data for the devs.
