Not to resurrect a dormant thread but I'm kinda lost. I bought Corel studio online and one of the reasons was because of the Instant Templates. But I only have like three and four and they are very basic. Now the people who bought the box versions have all the templates it seems. I thought maybe I had them in the wrong folder or something, but thats not it either and a few other users I know have the same problem, are we missing templates? Or are they only available with the box version? I never got an email or anything like that and I checked my account and there is nothing there either. If they are only available with the box version, is there any way to download them?
Thanks

Hi Paul

And welcome to the forums

The download program comes in several parts, this is purely to limit the size of the download files.

The Main Program ,….. installs the basic program similar to the trial.
A Contents file,…. which completes the installation by basically adding additional templates.
Possibly a Bonus file…. containing extras, free software where appropriate.

You should have received a link to these files along with the link to the main program.
I suggest once downloaded you save all to disc as a backup, along with any activation codes.

Moreover, if you click the icon with the circle of dots around a downward-pointing arrow up in the top right of screen, you will be directed to a lot more. And you will find even more free ones on a separate, but related, website called PhotoVideo Life at http://www.photovideolife.com/content/share-template But note that with the latter, you have to first establish an account/login, though the templates are free.

Thanks for the help guys. I don't think I ever got the contents file so I'll be emailing Corel and hopefully get that sorted out. Thank again.

Hi

I also bought the Corel VideoStudio X4 Box set, and one of the main reasons was because of the advanced Instant Templates. But I also only have like three and four and they are very basic. I have gone through my contents and they just show up in Windows Explorer, and are very basic in nature. It is actually hard to figure out what is new from VS 11.5+. I thought maybe I had them loaded in the wrong folder or something, but that's not it either and a few other users I know have the same problem, are we missing templates? Especially video templated?

Once upon a time, you could import pictures and videos and have the option of selecting a theme that would insert video at the beginning and end of the timeline, and then have a constant theme for the contents in the middle.

I don't seem to have any of the video templates or auto wizards that used to help me import phots and videos directly into templates...

Thank you.

Hi Jeff

Instant Projects or Movie Wizard

The Movie Wizard has been removed from the program I suppose this is in the interest of progress.
The wizard made a complete project using a template to create the start and endings. The body of the project being your video files, however in most cases these required some editing and you were taken back to the edit timelines to complete the project. Well all that has gone, last seen with VS 12 (X2)

The Instant Project templates do similar in that they create the start or endings to the project, you add the main video content. The result being similar to the wizard.

I first add my video and images to the timeline, edit the clips, most of the time some editing is required.
Then select Instant Project to apply a start.
Unfortunately the Instant Project use a “place-holder” which has to be replaced with your own images, this process can take a while, but who said video editing was quick.

To replace a "place holder" Drag a clip from the library, hover over the place-holder, press Ctrl on the keyboard and drop the clip.

Installing Video Studio.
Contents file
I don’t have the disc version but assume it to be similar to the download in that the program is provided in two parts, the Contents file being run to complete the installation by adding additional library, templates, auto sound to the program.
This should also install further Instant Project Templates.

Can you confirm that you have installed the “contents disc/file”
After installation the main edit library should contain a lot of clips.

Bonus file.
There should also be a Bonus file that contains free samples, these being installed manually, that is copied to the hard drive and imported to the appropriate library.

Hi Trevor,

Thank you for the detailed explaination, it was very helpful. However, I guess I am still trying to get over the removed wizard... I will make my next project using the suggestions that you listed above. Thank you for your help.

By the way do you know where I can get any additional movie templates for X4 other than www.photolife? Perhaps I can load the templates from VS 11.5+?????

Jeff

PS: I have the X4 boxed set.

PSS: Sorry it took so long for my reply!

Have you downloaded all the extra free project templates via the 'Do More' tab in the Corel Guide within VideoStudio

Hi Brian,

Thank you for all your help, patience and support. Yes in fact I have downloaded all the titles and templates from the X4 DO MORE splash screen. I have even checked for updates, but never seem to find any.

In any event, I am always looking for additional movie templates. For many years now, I have been making free videos of peoples lives and special occasions (90th birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, etc) for the elderly. Everyone has seen the same dozen or so templates that I have been using and reusing...

Ideally what I really need is a way to use the movie/video wizard in X4. It worked great in VS 11.5+. Now it is gone... If you know where I can get any sort of templates that would be great. Thank you.

I almost never use the instant project templates preferring instead to make my own individual videos - you can make your own project templates - every item used in them is available to you using VideoStudio also every item used in the provided templates can be changed (the pictures, the music, the titles, the background etc.) to make a new template - and once you have done a new one you can export it as a template for future use.

I just want to add that Instant Project Templates with VSX4 is a huge pain in the neck. Its managed differently than all previous versions. I have a quite fast PC with 16GB Ram, but struggle to even view the templates when I want to choose one from the list -very slow to respond.

The replacement of files in the placeholder is also a very tedious process. Each time you have to browse to your working folder it doesn't keep track of you previous browsing like with other replacements in the project.

Another draw back is that you have to download extra ones, seems to me that its becoming more and more like other applications that offer a basic application and you have to buy these different style packs.

I'm not a fan of templates but it can in some cases be very needy to apply effects that you like quickly. Hope they will change this part in the new version.
