VideoStudio 11 Plus

Dear All,
I use Ulead VideoStudio 11Plus for a long time without any significant problem.
As I am working on a project for couple of weeks , I received a warning message as follows: "Unsufficient Memory"
This is the first time I have seen it in this programme. As I was working in my ex-computer with Windows XP and 1 GB Ram , I changed it with a new one equipped with Win 7 Premium and i7 proccessor using 4 GB RAM.
Then , I reinstalled the programme into my new computer and tried to go on the existing video project. I just received the following message:
"Ulead\vstudio.exe : This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact to application's support team for more info"
Your kind advices and/or experiences are appreciated.

First thoughts are the projects content.

Do the error messages show with all projects you are using?

What type of files are you using in your project?

Have you used any “nesting” within your projects?
If yes check each project on their own to make sure they are complete.
If no, double check the project to make sure you haven’t inadvertently added any VSP’s.

Thanks for your questions.
I use standard jpeg photos and mpeg1 video files.(+ text + music)
I did not have such warning messages in my previous projects.
Actually , I see it only in editing process, not previewing.
Total duration of the project is only 15 minutes until now.
I try to save the project file almost every 5 min. not to lose it !...

another point to consider is that version 11 was never designed to work with Windows 7 - there may just be some compatibility problems.

That's correct.
But , this "insufficient memory" warnings firstly appeared in this project that was in my previous computer running with Windows XP.
My guess is this problem would be related with either VideoStudio11 or the project itself.
But, the video and the pictures are in standard formats. I use all 6 overlay tracks in the project.
What would limit the programme memory ? If this is an addressing , what type of memory VideoStudio11 has ?
Your kind advices are appreciated.

Hi

The “Unsufficient Memory" error has been reported before, the name is a little ambiguous.
I do not think anybody has come up with a reason why this happens.
I feel it is the projects content, maybe a corrupt file that VS cannot read and then throws out this message.
Nothing to do with memory being insufficient, increasing the pc’s memory will not cure the problem.

That is why I asked what you had used but in particular if you have nested VSP’s.

Go to Settings Preferences-General tab – Clip Display Mode to File name Only
Viewing the timelines will show the clips name. What type of files are you using.?
Are any using the VSP extension?
You did mention Mpeg1 type video, is this correct or should that read Mpeg2?


Video Studio Library
The problem may be associated with clips in the library, although if its happening with two pc’s then I guess it’s the Project, however
You can restore the library to its default state, but first back it up by exporting the library.
Then Reset Library.

Since you are now using Windows 7 on your new computer, I would suggest that you just upgrade your VS X2 to VS X4, you can go to http://pnoy.me/coreltrials, to download the trial and see how the program works for you.

Referring to the points mentioned by "lata" , I checked some of them and found as follows.
Although I did not understand what does "nested VSP" mean , I just found the types of the files that I am using in this project.
The photograph files are :
.jpg , .jpeg , .png , .gif
The movie files are :
.avi , .mpg
I did not see any file with an extension of .vsp in the project.
Can one those above files create this problem ?
For instance , at the early stage of the project , VS could not read a .jpg file although I could open it in my pc ! Then, I did not use it in this project.
Can some downloaded clips or dowloaded pictures from internet make this happen ?

Nesting, quick explanation.
If you create a project and save as “Movie One”
Then create another calling it “Movie Two”, with this open in the timeline it is possible to insert Movie One, this is literally adding a project inside another, Known as nesting. The project file shows as a single clip similar to viewing any other video file.
If you now open “Movie One” and edit, delete clips etc this will affect “Movie Two”
If you are unsure about nesting then it can be easy to do without knowing.

Jpeg images, some problems when using Progressive types, this is the way the image has been saves/created, generally Jpegs are Baseline. (right click image and select properties, Jpeg tab)

Downloading video files, yes these can also cause problems, there are thousands of video types, many using non-standard sizes. Some types will cause problems for Video Studio. Using files from a camera are the safest types.
Mpeg4 and Mov types require QuickTime, As you are having crashes I would recommend installing an earlier version, 7.5.5, and just to contradict myself , if you cannot open Mpeg4 types then install the latest version of QT!

You seem to be using quite a variety of clips, any one may cause problems, unfortunately difficult to identify.

Having said all that you are using VS11 on Windows 7, not an ideal combination!!!!!!

Download the trial of X4,
Note that project files created in X4 cannot be opened in VS11.
Use VS11 to create a copy of your project to be used in X4.

Will check the .jpeg files if progressive types or not.
This problem was existing when using Windows XP. I plan to use this project which has been created in VS11 by X4 when I install it in my pc.

I controlled and found that there is not any nesting in the project.
Actually, the problem still exists.
On top of that , I received the following message yesterday while I was trying to preview the project just after I edited some scenes as follows:
"Failed to use DirectShow video engine - There is no sufficient storage area to finalize this process" (13102:3:2)

Hi

You say you are using Mpeg and Avi type video, Can you give details?

Right click each clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

If you remove all Avi types from the project do you still get the problems?
Then try removing all Mpeg.
As a test you could of course start a new project using only one type of video file.

By the way did you try Video Studio X4 trial?

I checked the video properties that I use in this project as follows:

Avi files:
Video Compression : Mpeg4 Decoder DMO
Audio Compression : MPEG Layer-3

MPEG-1 Files:
Video type : MPEG-1 Video
Audio type : MPEG Audio Layer 2 Files

So, I just made another project using only MPEG-1 videos and not noticed any warnings.
Of course , the duration is much shorter than the original project , and the number of files (videos and photos) are quite less.

I just ordered the full version of VideoStudio X4 Ultimate which would be my total solution , I believe.

As of today , I am trying to proceed with the existing "VS 11 Plus" while this problem mainly occurs when I push "preview" button to review what I revized in the project.
The program stops the running due to the insufficient memory. So , I have to restart the VS11 again and again.
My aim is to finish this project by using VideoStudio X4 Ultimate and write it on a DVD.

Hi

The Mpeg1 video file is one of the oldest types and indeed lowest quality, and use 4:3 ratio
Not many use this format nowadays.

The Mpeg4 is using MP3 audio and this may be causing the crashes, MP3 can be problematic.
It may however be 16:9 ratio

Are you able to convert the Mpeg4 video into another format, maybe Mpeg2 using MPEG Audio Layer 2

You may be able to use Batch Convert to achieve this.

Can you give full details of both video files including the frame size and data rates and aspect ratio.
Right click the clip select properties and give all details.

Knowing these details will help in deciding what properties to use for your conversions/renders.
As you are intending to burn a DVD then you should convert to DVD Mpeg2 4:3

If you are unable to use Video Studio to convert the Mpeg4 then try another conversion program, maybe Super

I succeeded to convert some .avi files into mpeg-2 files by using the Batch Convert of VS , and found as follows :

File format : MPEG-2
File size: 133.040 kb
Frame rate: 25.000 frames/sec
Data rate: Variable bit rate (max.8000 kbps)
Attributes : 24 bits, 720 x 576 4:3

Actually , I noticed that editing this mpeg-2 is much easier than avi altough I did not convert all avi videos into mpeg-2 in the project. I also use some songs in mp3 format in the project music track.
