X4 Cropping and Resizing Issue

Postby vciro on Wed Oct 12, 2011 9:27 pm

I recently upgraded from X3 to X4 and just noticed a Cropping and Re-sizing issue with X4. I submitted a support case but wanted to know if anyone else has experienced this. When I crop or re-size an image and then save it as a JPG, the size of the image prior to saving and the size displayed after saving and reopening are different. When I open the PRINT LAYOUT screen for the JPG, it confirms that the image was NOT re sized or cropped. It almost appears like there is an issue with the way X4 saves a JPG. When I perform the exact same cropping or re-sizing but save the image as a TIF, the problem does not happen. I also duplicated the cropping and re-sizing under X3, saved the image as a JPG and the problem did NOT happen. Has anyone else experienced this?

By the way, when I worked with tech support, they could not duplicate the problem on their system but when they remotely accessed my computer, they saw the problem. The only difference seems to be that I have a PC with a 3.33 gigahertz Intel Core i7 X 980 processor.

i am running into the same problem. Except I have X5. The only way I can save the changed picture is to Save As twice.

Dear scran53,
What is X5? I am not sure what you mean.

Thanks

Good News,
I got a call from the Corel folks yesterday and this has now been now categorized as a "bug" in X4. They assured me that it would be fixed in a Service Pack but could not give me a date at this time. So if you are having some weird results like I have with Cropping and Re-sizing and saving as a JPEG in X4, it looks like a solution is on the way! :)

It's now over 6 months since the Corel folks acknowledged that this was indeed a problem and that it would be fixed in a future release. Seems like the fix is long overdue!
C'mon Corel team......let's get this fixed, please.

I've just upgraded to X4. Has this been fixed yet, or even addressed? Still does it for me.

Same here Jim. I just bought and installed PSP X4 and it immediately also downloaded Service Pack 1 at the same time. I've sent in an email reuqest for customer support. They could not solve the issue. They did not acknowledge it as a flaw or 'bug'. They became angry with me when I kept insisting that they fix it. Something as simple as a crop tool and it doesn't work properly. I closed the ticket in utter disgust a week later. I guess I could send it back for a refund. I just may do that.

I am not experiencing any of these problems. Mine is a download version obtained on 17 th March 2012 from corel.com and operating on fully updated Windows XP .
I hope I am following the steps correctly as designated in the first post.
1. Take an image 2000 x 1300 pixels (resolution was set at 300 dpi and confirmed in Irfanview)

2. Load into PSP (I use drag and drop from a folder)

3. Resize image , ( I chose 1000 pixels on long side)

4 Save the image ( I used Save As and saved to the desktop)

I checked it with Irfanview and showed as 1000 x 666 and still 300 DPI

5 reloaded in to PSP X4 (used Open Folder button)

The image showed as 1000 x 666 pixels in lower right display and RGB 8 bits / channel.
Used the I (Information button) and showed as same .
Tried resize (Image -> Resize) and showed as 1000 x 666 pixels and 300 pixels / inch.

I also did a 1000 x 1000 crop and again all things remained as expected. So no problems at all here.
So is there a conflict between PSP and some computers or Microsoft updates or other software on board.
I also tested it out on Windows 7 again with no problems.

To my knowledge, I can't remember that someone ever mentioned a problem in our meetings as described by vciro. Especially, there has never been a problem in PSPX4 with size despite that so-called "72dpi" bug, you know what I mean. I would never have noticed the "72" bug (I only work with 72dpi), but what I definitely had noticed is a resize bug. I use PSPX4 in a daily basis and I resize all my images for web purpose. Furthermore, we have never had a customer reporting this.
