I started up the program the other evening and clicked on the update alert link then closed the program. Now, shortly after the program loads, it crashes. I don't want to lose my preferences settings so am hesitant to to uninstall and reinstall.

Can I fix this simply?
Thanks,
Sue

I don't know if you can fix it simply, I don't handle that. But if you don't want to lose your settings there is a fix for that.

When you have your settings the way you like them with Paint Shop Pro open go to File->Workspace->Save. Then give it a name. This will save all of your settings into a file that you can load to define how everything that you've changed.

Now to back that up.

Open up your documents, My PSP Files, Workspaces, you'll see a file with the name you gave it and the extension .pspworkspace. That holds all of your settings. So long as you back that up you should be able to restore your settings.

As for the fix....

I can't say for sure that this is the problem, but if it's the message center that's the problem you just delete the messages in the message cache.

Problem is I don't know where that cache is. It might be in the hidden folder AppData.

C:\Users\Name\AppData\Roaming\Corel\Messages\ or something like that. But I don't know for sure. Corel might have a utility for it that would be better than you rummaging around in the appdata folder. But again I don't know.

Thank you SO much! Deleting the Messages folder content fixed it. As far as I can tell, the only thing I lost was my favorite folder selections in the organizer which is no big deal.
