WinDVD Wish List for Future Versions

Every so often I have contact with a Corel employee or software engineer regarding new versions. It is always handy if I can point them to a thread such as this.
Please keep any suggestions sensible - plus this is not a place to complain about what YOU may consider to be bugs or faults. Those items should be placed in a new thread or tagged onto an existing one dealing with that same issue.

Make possible to run all2hd and stretch to 4/3 at the same time

-An option to select the resolution of the screenshot / snapshot. Now it's always 640 x 480. What about original DVD resolution, some common resolutions, and maybe a "custom resolution" feature.

-When I'm using video's hardware acceleration to play dvds (I have a nvidia 7600GS graphics card), and try to take snapshots, the result is an interlaced picture (when I'm playing the dvd, it's not interlaced, but it shows when I'm taking a snapshot). This issue is solved and the snapshots are ok if I turn off the hardware acceleration.

-There should be fast forward / backward buttons in the main-menu. WinDVD 9 it seems to have them hidden under the "skip chapter"-buttons, and it's not so handy to use thatway.

+ if you could make WinDVD to start faster, it would be great!

Bugs :
- With Trimention, the display area is smaller
- The setting (Speakers, trimention, Al2HD) is lost at each restart
- Halo effect with trimention mode video quality to Best

The Wish wish
=> Load a profile for launching windvd (like a videcard for exemple)
ex: a profile with hardware decoder for blu-ray

more shortcuts
=> To force the options without mouse or remote

Bitstream Audio

I have an Intel G35 HDMI motherboard and it would be great if WinDVD supported the ability to bitstream HD audio formats like TrueHD and DTS-HD MA over HDMI to my A/V receiver instead of decoding them in software and passing LPCM. This would make WinDVD a true replacement for a set-top Blu-Ray or HD DVD player.

VERY URGENT!

I miss the Pan & Scan function WinDVD8 had. What happened to it? Is there any other way to get 4:3 or 16:9 material to full screen on a 16:10 notebook display?

MCE/DirectShow Plug-In

It would be great if WinDVD could be integrated to any application that uses DirectShow. For example being able to play from within Windows Media Center or MediaPortal or other media center applications.

WinDVD is a player.

Why would you want to use one player to activate another - it sounds like your saying I want to be able to drive my Ford Mondeo inside my Vauxhall Calibra.

response to Aphykit2006. I chose a 2' UI over the more typical 10' UI (consumer gear, Windows Media Edition), WinDVD is designed for a 2' UI (desktop & laptop PC presentation) - which is why I stick with it. 2' UI's are designed around having a full keyboard and mouse, whereas 10' UI's are designed for "remotes". A "presentation" style HID might be a suitable compromise for you.

I too, have a projector (Sony VPL-15AW) with a 96" screen, but I also have a Viewsonic VA1912wb on a wall mounted peerless articulated arm for the 2' UI display (next to my recliner:-). To make this work, I use nVidia's Dual-View and nView software so that each display runs in it's native mode (720p & 1440x900). The keyboard / mouse requirement is "solved" with a LiteOn SK-7100 keyboard-mouse and Airboard 4.0.1 software. The keyboard is IR with a 30' range and has hand grips on either side - no table or surface required. These keyboards are still available but the Airboard software is hard to find and doesn't work with Vista. I have stuck a couple of 1/4" felt pads (<F> and <enter>) on it so that I can operate WinDVD in the dark. The Airboard "video" media key executes WINDVDFS.EXE and can be used to move the Windows focus to WinDVD app - so the keyboard shortcuts work after fiddling around with other things.

The system board has WOK (Wake On Keyboard) enabled so that the keyboard turns it on. I have an automation app that turns the projector on - which requires that the ViewSonic be the Windows "primary" display.

Re "bugs"
- Dual-View (as opposed to "clone mode") allows WinDVD "pan and scan" to work, thus solving the picture shrinkage problem.
- Yes, I find the automatic resetting of the audio and video panel settings irritating.

My own wish list would include some other support applications similar to WinDVDfs that would eliminate most of the use of the mouse and the need for WinDVD to have the Windows focus. Specifically:
fast forward and reverse. The pause and run keys seem to work OK as do the louder, quieter, and mute keys.

Huh? Technically I understand your wish; but it makes no operational sense to me. Either one designs the home theater HID around the 2' UI paradigm or around the 10' UI paradigm. Mix and match doesn't seem operationally friendly.

Windows Media Edition is designed around the 10' UI (the display is 10'+ away) and remotes are the assumed control device. Example: consumer gear.

Flag the IVIVIDEO.AX codec as Media Center compatible so we can use the Vista Media Center Decoder Utility to replace the built in MPEG-2 decoder with the WinDVD 9 one and use the benefits of a superior codec from within VMC.

My wish: optional PAL Speedup for Blu-Ray playback.

Video projectors with 24p support are still very expensive. So i wish me a pal speedup to get smooth playback of blu-ray disks.

The 4% faster sound is less bad than 4:3 pull-down and with corrected pitch the frequency of the sound don't gets higher.

I already read in other forums and saw that many people use ReClock to make a PAL Speedup for getting smooth playback of Blu-Ray. But as ReClock don't support Vista, there is no way for me.

Having a 2.35 Aspect Ratio selection mode with blu-Ray & DVD :

When using for example a videoprojector with an anamorphic lens, the 2.35 movie (with black bars) has to be verticaly streched in order the image is able to fit the 16/9 panels.

This is a mode inserted in the latest Sony videoProjector (sony VPL-VW60, see this documentation, page 30 : http://www.sonystyle.com/wcsstore/SonyStyleStorefrontAssetStore/pdf/VPLVW60.pdf), and it will be nice to have that function in WinDVD (for the other videoprojectors that doesn't have it for example) and maybe echaned this mode with Blu-Ray pixel interpolation during the strech like your DVD to HD function. (it will be 2.35 to 16/9 interpolation).

Wish:

An applet within the Vista (Ultimate) Media Center shell enabling user control over settings such as All2HD, Trimension, Digital Natural Motion, color settings, refresh settings etc.

I never ever use WinDVD as the default DVD player, instead I watch everything from within the Vista Media Center shell, and currently the aforementioned features are all deactived when watching from within Media Center. Only when playing them from outside Media Center in the WinDVD application itself do I get these quality enhancements.
