Cooper Tonks, Mini and I are proud to announce that our competition entry is up and running.
An e-mail has been sent with the attached VSP file which swelled up to almost 5Mb to make this 5 minute video.
After making this video I have a very deep appreciation to video camera people and editors. It's HARD WORK!
The outdoor video was shot over two weekends and a little separate shoot for the studio shots.
I used a Panasonic NV-GS180 by no means an "up-there" model but I think you will agree that it does a good job. Only a couple of clips were colour corrected (in VS) and it will be obvious to some that a cheap polarizor lens filter was used. I'm still learning to use the lens filter.
Although I forgot to credit, the music are SmartSound tracks and it's amazing how important sound is to a production. Video Studio 11.5+ comes with a more than adequate selection of smartsounds and they work so well that I'm very tempted to buy more.
I came up with the ficticious "Paw TV" as I had done some simple Doggy home videos for Youtube over the last couple of months. This video will fit in nicely with my doggy's blog (yes...he has a blog). Cooper Tonks loves walking around Marrickville and he's stop and want to have a sniff at something every 5 steps or so.
The voices was actually the hardest to do and I am still not happy with it. I thought of getting a 4yo kid I know to do it but the notion of doing that much voice editing was way beyond the time I have. I used Audacity to change the pitch of the voices and my wife helped too to do Mini's voice.
I learnt quite alot about what VS11.5+ could do while putting this together and quite often had to go back and alter things as I learnt some new tricks. I was amazed at how easy chroma key-ing is. I literally spent less than $5 buying the cloth and would have been better with proper lighting.
Over the video turned out to be OK.... in hindsight there are some things I would do a little differently but I am happy with the over-all effect.
There are lots of positive things about Marrickville but it is in a state of flux at the moment. Two days after shooting, McDonalds closed down due to lack of profit and the local RSL club will stop trading at the end of this year. About 5 other shops closed down too over the last month but a couple of new cafe's opened up too. Difficult times but the it's the people that make this town special.
Hope you get a good sense of Marrickville despite the humerous premise and the dog's point of view.
Look forward to any critiques and also happy to answer any questions.
Wow !
I really liked how you made it look like the dog was talking.
Thought the scrolling text at the end was brilliant.
The video was humorous and interesting. I can see you have put a lot of work into this. Well done and good luck in the competition.
Awesome there is a competition like this. I have an exam tomorow. After that I'm going to shoot some shots with my cam and make a nice video. Not to many days left but should be able to make a decent one out of it.
And there weren't any Dutch cities/towns yet so I will represent the Netherlands.

exactly what i was thinking. Real original idea for the comp. A lot of people are going all out with editing and you drppped a nice video story. Wii contender for sure
Nice one!
I used to live in Marrickville. I still remember the time I was driving home and there were 2 black 4X4s blocking the intersection and guys standing around with automatic weapons. I didn't hang around to find out what was going on!
But I do recall the post cafe where I would go on a saturday morning for breakfast. They did this great fried cheese thing which was very good.

Great video, hope you win.
Fried Haloomi(sic). Bit too rich for me though I crave it sometimes.
The police patrol very regularly now...
But Marrickville is not what it used to be. It's trying to be Newtown's little cousin thesedays but not going that well.
Marrickville RSL closed down last NYE. Lots of changes happinging very quickly lately.
