Dialogue box changed on Linux?

Is it just me, or has the dialogue box for selecting a directory/opening a file/saving changed recently? (I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.)

I think it happened with the last update, but can't swear to it.

Either way, I used to get the nice Gnome dialogue box. Now I'm stuck with the smaller, rather nastier QT one.
(I presume it's the QT one, as I recall Bibble was built using QT. But I'm happy to be corrected.)

Anyway, please bring back the old "native" dialogue box for file operations if possible. The new ones are small, cramped, ugly and badly behaved.

What's a theme?

I'm using the default Ubuntu theme, and always have. I'm not really a themes kind of person...

Perhaps my memory tricks me and AfterShot Pro has always used this dialogue box - I did have to use Bibble 5 recently. So maybe it did change when the name changed.

Ah well. It's a preference - I can work with either, I just prefer the native file dialogues.

Like afx says, it uses Qt. If you're not running KDE, just run qtconfig to change your Qt theme, and pick a system that matches your GNOME/Gtk setup.

I can confirm this behaviour on my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS box running Gnome 2.30.2 after upgrading from ASP 1.0.0.39 to 1.0.1.10. In the first release ASP used the system default dialogue boxes, which I found a bit more convenient when importing a large number of folders into catalogs. Once your fingers are used to the key sequences (Ctrl-I, Up, Up, Bksp, Down, Enter...), this can be done really fast without using a mouse. (In all honesty, this is still possible using slightly different key strokes, although these are different from the default Gnome dialog boxes and miss a highlighted 'cursor' so that it is hard to see what you are doing).

This indeed somewhat changes the dialog appearance, but it does not bring back the original dialog box itself. Anyway, not a big deal - like the OP I just prefer the original settings because they integrate better into Gnome's default GTK+ desktop environment. Any other ideas on how to get those back?

Yes, the dialogs have changed with the latest update.

Also, the old Bibble problem: when you hit delete button to delete an image, focus is not returned to the ASP window, and you have to click it (or otherwise return focus) before using keyboard commands again.

Oh good, I wasn't going crazy.

I've also had no luck getting decent results by using QT themes, and would prefer that the system's dialogue boxes be used if possible.

Same problem here. I think is is a bug: I got various unexpected results when trying to set the theme using qtconfig-qt4. In the Trolltech.conf, there is a setting "style=GTK+" that you can try. However, I got no gradient style with this setting enabled.
So, I think it's a bug that appeared between the update from ASP 1.0.0 to ASP 1.0.1.
