Precise texturing, outlining, & multi-side texturing

Postby Torrianthane on Thu Feb 02, 2012 11:13 am

Morning,

Is there any way to do the following?

(1) More precise texturing: besides the obvious methods of texturing (using an image as the "color-fill" for objects and text), is there a more precise way to texture, or skin, text/objects so more user-controlled detail can be applied to certain parts?

(2) Is there a way of coloring/texturing an outline to text? What I have been doing is importing vector text into MS3D, then applying a texture or color, but is there a way to have an outline applied to the text while maintaining the appearance of the inner part?

(3) Is there any way of making the various sides of extruded text different colors? For example, the face of your text white while having the perimeter a red color?

Thanks for the help!

For multi-side texturing, select the sides you want to change, or deselect the sides you don't want to change.

Use the same method described by Kingston in his post above. You select the side(s) you want to change the color or texture. A big part of this is having a Bevel. By default there is no bevel applied. Go to the Attribute Panel and from the drop-down menu select Bevel, and then choose one of the bevel templates. I would say for the type of effect you're after, using a Chiseled-Round or Round-Chiseled would work.
