changing burn speed

I have a pioneer blu ray burner bdp 205. The burn speed is set to max. I need to set it to a lower speed to burn my hybird dvd. In 7se under the burn window, I clicked on the wheel in the lower left but the speed option was grayed out. I could not change it. There is a disk in the burner. I am using vs3pro. How do I change the burn speed with the software.Thanks for your help

This is probably a fault in the program. I just spent the last hour trying to figure this out. For some reason it does not allow changing the burn speed. At first I thought we would need to first change the setting in the OS (Vista), by selecting the properties of the burner in Windows Explorer>Computer. However unlike Win XP, Vista does not have the burn speed settings on the Recorder tab. So not getting anywhere, I fired-up VS X2 Pro, and the burn module does allow changing the burn speed, which clearly points to DVD MF7 as not allowing it... why???? Don't have a clue, chalk it up to yet another Corel screw-up..

thanks for the reply. I have windows 7 home edition. I'll see if it has it on the recorder tab. unfortunately, my video i recorded goes into a loop. ken suggested lowering the burning speed. I will contact pioneer and see what I can do. I feel like Ken maybe right. If I can just figure out how to slow the burner down that may fix my problem. Thanks for trying.

What do you mean, "goes into a loop"? After the video is done it automatically plays again? If so, that is a setting you can change, though I'm not sure where that is in MF7SE.

After about 5-10 sec. it quits playing and goes back to the beginning and plays again. Then it does it again. Ken berry said to burn it at a lower speed and see if that helped. However, the option is grayed and won't let me it is set on max. any suggestions?

I got a reply from corel and so far they haven't helped. Maybe on the next email. One of their articles said to look for a file dvdmf.exe and change it. I couldn't find it. Do you think that maybe 7se didn't load right? If not how do I load it again. Put in the disk and redo it ?

That file, is just the executable file that launches the program. You don't want to change that file in any way...

The only place I've been able to find to change the burn speed is found in the last step, and as you can see it is grayed out, so the speed can not be changed..

I checked DVD MF7 (pro) on my WinXP machine and it too will not allow changing the burn speed, however in DVD MF6 Plus the burn speed can be changed. This is clearly a problem with DVD MF7. Why Corel would have that option, but not allow access to it, is ridiculous.

It becomes more and more apparent that DVD MovieFactory 7se is wrought with many problems too. While it was "nice" of Corel to offer it as a free alternative to the awful DVD Factory 2010, we deserve to get what we paid for, which is a fully functional authoring program.

Corel has yanked me around enough and I, for one, have already started my search for a new editing/authoring solution, as I will not be giving Corel anymore of my hard-earned money.

I am afraid I may have to do the same black lab. I am going to reinstall x3 pro and 7se and see if that will fix the problem. If not I may have to start looking around also.

Well I found the answer to the burn speed. I am using imgburn. It is a free program and I can chance the speed to burn. It worked. I now can edit with vs and burn the avchd dvd's. Anyone having the same problem as I was I suggest using imgburn. Thanks again to Ron and Ken and everyone else for your help.

My problems match others. Using Pro 2010 or 7SE I get a DVD that can be read on a computer reader but not a DVD player, despite specifying DVD player compliant. So now I have projects completed but am unable to share them - the whole point of the exercise.
I have tried alternative makes of disk but burning at too high a rate is a well known reason for disks not being readable. Looks as if we have a problem of 'not fit for purpose' until Corel sort this one out. How can we put pressure on them to do so?

A follow up, because I had to get a draft out somehow I tried burning a CD instead and that does alow a change of burn speed, producing a useable disk but at MPEG1 quality of course. That makes the lack of control for DVD burning even worse.

Okay I found the right place to post!!!

I have the same problem along with "underburn protection" being grayed out.
I have created two Blu-ray coasters that look like they wrote all the data but crashed at the end. I could not finalize it like a DVD or read any data on it. It says 0 free.

What I did was take my file and burn it with Cyberlink Producer. It worked without any problem. (Came with the blurray drive)
I am pretty sure that this is a Corel problem that they need to fix. I like their menus better than Cyberlinks.

Same problem but I follwed an SJJ solution on another thread.

Create an ISO file using MovieFactory 7 SE and then use third party software to burn the DVD at a low burn speed.
In my case I used Nero to burn the DVD at 4X.
Although it is intensely annoying having to go this route it is highly effective and I have a good quality DVD that plays on all DVD players (so far!).

I have also noticed that the quality of the film on the TV screen is noticeably better going this route than burning direct to DVD using X2. I'm still trying to worik out why as all settings appear to be the same.

The problem is, though, Max, that bob816 doesn't want to burn a DVD but a Blu-Ray disc. And as you may have seen in another thread, MF 7 -- neither the SE nor the Pro version -- will make an ISO file for Blu-Ray discs.

However, they will make 'Folders' -- in this case a Blu-Ray BD Folder -- and that too can be burned with third party programs such as Nero, where the burn speed -- as you have noted - * can* be adjusted...
