photo explorer 8 suddenly stopped working in xp

Postby thornburgh on Wed Mar 31, 2010 12:32 am

I use Photo Explorer 8 all the time, and have for years. Suddenly it stopped working today. What happens is it freezes for several minutes on the splash screen with about 13% cpu usage. If I add the command line \n, it opens without delay, but then freezes for several minutes if I try to navigate to a folder.

I have tried uninstalling and deleting everything related then reinstalling several times. I also tried 8.5 - it has the same problems.

I am using XP. I haven't made any system changes since it stopped working, and I don't believe there have been any Microsoft patches in that time frame either.

Any help? This is maddening.

Thanks. It cleared up. Not sure why. Based on another message, I tried connecting and disconnecting various USB devices, and I also launched Ulead VideoStudio and used it to view files.

I use Photo Explorer 8.6 on my Win7 64 bit PC, however I use the compatibility mode of Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Right click on PEX, Properties, Compatibility, tick the box and choose XP Service Pack 3. I never have any problems with my PEX.
