Paintshop X5 suddenly will not stay open

Postby hjed207 on Sun Dec 30, 2012 5:17 pm

This morning I was editing a photo with Paintshop x5. I rotated it; adjusted levels, and saved. Fine; then I went to resize it to make a smaller version for email. I suddently get a message from Windows (7) saying the program has stopped and that Windows will shut it down and there will be a message as to what might be the problem. Well, it shut it down; no message. Now I can't start up Paintshop x5; it stays open for a few seconds, then I get the same message.
Since it was working fine, I assume something got corrupted? Something I can remove? I am NOT looking forward to having to reinstall the program for no apparent reason.

WIndows 7 64bit; Dell Vostro 270, i3 3GHZ, 4 gig ram.

Have you tried resetting the workspace?

Open PSP while holding the SHIFT key. It will ask if you want to reset the program.

It worked, but only for a while. Then the third time I opened it, it shut down again. Tried resetting preferences but it shut down again.

This is what happened when PSP X5 started to fail for me. Have you deleted your image.db file? Mine is located at C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\15.0\Database. (as someone mentioned, I've added a shortcut to my desktop so I can access it easily) Also recommended was to empty your temp folders. Maybe that's all you need to do, although I ended up having to do a total reinstall in safe mode and change my graphics settings. I don't understand why it happened in the first place or why it seemed to cause additional problems with the program.

Carolyn, thanks; removing ImageDB.db seems to have done the trick for a while. . I've even edited a photo. closed, but when I went to re-open the same thing happened.
Now the folder has something called ImageDB.db-journal, which it didn't have before.
I am thinking this is something about the image management tool; I'm betting that is something gets moved outside of Corel (like my sorting into new folders, etc. using explorer), that it sets it off.
I'm removed both and can once again keep the program open. At least this points to something. Why it just happened I don't know, but the first time, I imagine it did have folders listed in the manager that were no longer where they were.
SO I've set the program to open in the editor by default.

Unable to locate imagedb.db on my C drive. I have searched "as Administrator" and my "Database" file does not show up where it should. The only folders in my 15 folder are as follows:
Computer OS (C:)\Users\Admini-1\AppData\Local\Temp
and
Computer OS (C:)\Users\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\15\Cache\Preset Thumb
and
Computer OS (C:)\Users\AppData\Local\Corel PaintShop Pro\15\Thumbs

There is no "database" folder and I have "Show hidden" checked. How do I access the "database" folder?

I have worked on this for 3 days now. I even purchased the full suite of "FixCleaner" and updated my whole laptop. This is so frustrating.

If there isn't a "Database" folder next to "Thumbs" and "Cache" then there isn't a Datababase folder at all.

Have you tried making the Database folder yourself?

But it sounds like the installation or something else is going wrong and preventing the database folder from being seen and created. So this may not even be the issue.

I have not tried to create my own Database folder. I will do that. It certainly cannot hurt. LOL At this point, I will try anything.
