BUG Report: Save bug

Postby Auser on Tue Jul 24, 2012 6:30 pm

I have a picture, I select save and chose png

No what what name i pick PSP tells me "The file name is not valid"

If i chose to save as TIF it saves right away. If I copy a png file in the directory and click on the file, and then click on that file in the save as dialog, PSP asks me if i want to overwrite, if i say yes then it saves the file: From then on i can save without getting this error message.
The world would be easier if people were easier.

"I have a picture" is it a loaded jpg, psp or tiff or an image you have constructed (File -->New and does the image have any transparency).

"I select save and chose png" Are you clicking the save button, Save As button or File-->Save or File --> Save As .

Which version of Paintsshop Pro are you using.
I have tried all of these in X4 and cannot get that error message so far but can recall seeing a similar message before but cannot remember which version.

From memory when the suggested name included .png it worked OK but when I changed the suggested name to leave out the .png it refused. I kept thinking that if I left it as xxxx.png and saved that as a png file that it would finish as xxxx.png.png and so removed the .png in the suggested name.
Does not seem to make any difference in X4

Not entirely sure about the version number.
I made the (possible mistake) choice of upgrading to the "ultimate" version - and am now seeing new and exciting bugs (like none of my layers showing up in the layers palette..)

As with most programs you click on the Help menu item and then choose About and that will show you a splash screen with the actual program X2 X3 X4 and the version number.

At this stage I still do not know what program you are having troubles with / You say PSP which is Paintshop Pro, but that comes in versions ....PSP8 ..... PSPX, PSPX1, PSPX2, PSPX3, PSPX4.

And at least X2 X3 and X4 have an Ultimate version

so your statement: "made the (possible mistake) choice of upgrading to the "ultimate" version :" still does not give anyone a clue as to what program or version you are using.

If we know what program / version you are using someone can test out your procedure and see if we have the same problem

EDIT: OK I apologise , I looked up your other posts and now gather that you are using PSPX4 and upgraded to the latest. (PSP X4 14.2.0.1) which is SP2.
I am still on SP1 and do not have that problem you mentioned at the start , so maybe others who have upgraded can check it out.

No you are right, I was vague about it. But i didn't think you could buy the old versions anymore.
And yes its X4 14.2.0.1.
Haven't seen the name save bug yet, however I've seen another bug where my layers palette is completely EMPTY even though there are several layers in the picture.

In some cases like this would be good to have a screen shot showing the image near the layers palette so we can see the problem.

eg
Image

Or step by step recipe listing showing how you got that result.

As they say a picture can be worth a thousand words. :D

Well, your layer palette shows 3 layers; it looks like that except the 3 layers aren't there.

But I'll see about grabbing it next time it shows up.

Though the palette was free floating at the time and I've gone to auto hide+docked perhaps that makes a change.

I'd like to have the old way of being able to auto hide WITHOUT docking. But i guess features are bad.

In X4, they want you to dock the layers palette, its features don't work when it floats. No explanation for that change has been given (that I have seen) despite the myriad of complaints by users.

Only for your understanding: there is no difference between PSPX4 and PSPX4 Ultimate. It's made "Ultimate" by installing the Nik filters.

@ADonahoo

Please describe step by step what you are doing:

1. Open PSPX4 Edit mode
2. Open sample picture.jpg from My Pictures
3. Go to Effect -> and so on
4. File - Save as
Result: error message

Then, we will be able to reproduce the problem.

I'm sorry, Simone, I have no idea what this is referring to. I'm not having problems saving jpgs or adding effects. My main problems with X4 are functions that have been changed to operate in a different manner from the way they always have in older versions.

The version numbers were different.

But I'm not sure how i feel about you saying i essentially wasted some money (and the webpage doesn't really make the difference clear)

I don't see a comparison on that page, but then corels site seems to load 50 different versions depending on where people are and what machines the yes (and possibly the position of the moon)

Its also a bit late now.
