X4 Paste from Clipboard Bug

Postby patara on Fri Nov 18, 2011 8:51 am

I searched the forum but could not find an answer to this problem.
I copied a file from my Card Program and then pasted it into X4. Besides the quality being shocking the end section of the image was pasted at the beginning, which I saw mentioned in another post.
But the same clipboard image pasted perfectly in PSPX and PSPX3, so the problem is not with the image nor with the Card Program.
Below is the image shown pasted in X, X3 and X4.
Has this been addressed and/or reported or is there a fix. This is extremely poor standards and obviously is from incorrect programming in X4. Not impressed.
Plainly clear one cannot have only X4 installed to work with as it still has many bugs that have not been rectified.
Would appreciate any feedback....Pat

OK. Does it only happen when you copy from your unnamed "Card Program"? If so, what is the name of the card program?

FWIW, I just copied a part of a photo in Photoshop CS4, then opened PSP X4 and established a new canvas big enough to take the part I copied. Then I pasted (Ctrl+V) and it pasted correctly. So I am not sure I am understanding your problem...

Hi Ken, the program I copied from is one of the Hallmark Card series. I have copied images from that program for years and pasted into many versions of PSP and have never had an issue before X4. I haven't used copy and paste enough in X4 to say if it would only happen from that particular one or other sources as well. But I'm not alone. I have read posts here where others have the same problem. One member said it happens for them on any copy and paste and another says it happens when copying and pasting from PSE. Plus I think there were a couple more I read about. One thread was called PaintShopPo X4.
I haven't time to test my copy and paste from PS to X4 tonight but will try that as a test on the weekend.

Not sure why you mention that you established a new canvas big enough to hold your clipboard image in X4 as that has never been a requirement of PSP, but of PS. I did not use Ctrl+V but the Paste Icon. I pasted the same clipboard image in all 3 versions, after seeing the result in X4. Each version produced an image result of exactly the same size. None of the image size was cut off in X4 but the right side is being transposed over to the left side and the quality is terrible. The right side image transposition has been mentioned in these forums before.
I don't know how much clearer I can be and I thought the screen capture would show it clearly. The same clipboard image was pasted in 3 different versions of PSP, X and X3 produced exactly the same result and X4 produces a totally different result in regards the image appearance and quality. The screen capture was taken of the images in the PSP interfaces by me placing the programs side by side one on top of the other and using a capture tool and I did not edit it. You can see the versions at the top of each image section.

But to conform with your style of copy and paste I did it again in X4, by making a new canvas and then using Ctrl+V to paste and the result was exactly the same as before. In regards the colour in X4, you can see the result is way off and you can see the quality of the image is entirely different. All 3 versions have the same colour Management settings so I see no reason why X4 would change the colour so dramatically or produce such a poor quality image that is unusable with fuzzy edge fringing on all the lines plus in areas place white where there is no white or make some white and coloured areas black.
Below is another screenshot of part of the image in X4 on top and X3 underneath and how it is supposed to look. How it looks in X3 is also how it looks in X.....Pat

Patara, the paste problem with the image being offset is a known bug. But it's only experienced by some people not by all. Exactly why this is I don't know. I have never personally experienced this bug. Though if you use the Offset command you can "fix" it....I think. Again I've never had the bug so I don't know if that will fix it.

As for the color problem, I have never seen that at all. Not as a post here or in my own attempts. So with that sort of bug I'd see about getting technical support.

Corel did make some "improvements" to the way it interprets some colors but I find it hard to believe that they are the cause of this. Then again I know so little about it. And I can't get a trial of the Hallmark Card software to test this against.

That color problem reminds me of the CMYK bug that will never be fixed.

I see this when I copy & paste something from the internet, but not from other programs on my computer.
I make a rectangular selection of the 'wrong' bit, promote it to layer and move the original to the left and the promoted selection the the right. Everything fits :)
I didn't know this was a X4 bug, I thought it was the way something had been coded.

It's certainly a bug. I copied and pasted that file multiple times and got the same result. Even if I was inclined to use the offset tool to fix the image position I still couldn't use the image. The quality is shocking, completely unusable and no amount of repairing would change that.
I'm going to see if I can access one of the image files via the disc contents. I know these are clip art files but what file type I have no idea. The program has a copy button and that is what I used. I've been copying from the program since PSP7 or PSP8 and this is the first time I've ended up with trash like that. ....Pat

In my version of X4, this problem does not exists. Any special step? I do concern about CMYK import.

Opening CMYK in PSP has kind of a klunky work around but is better than it has been in past versions from Corel. According to Simone Corel was not willing to pay the licensing for the CMYK colorspace files necessary to render them properly so they created a "close enough" concept where it uses a different profile to get results that are close to the original. In tests so far the result has been a lot better when opening a CMYK file. Pasting one I don't know.

As for the pasting problem it's different for many people. There are some who only experience it from certain browsers, one who only saw it when pasting from Photoshop Elements, and others who see it all the time. And still others who don't see it at all. It's very inconsistent so if you don't see it don't worry about it.

I'm going to have to dogpile on the paste bug. Corel put X4 Ultimate Upgrade on their pre-'Black Friday' sale list and I bought the upgrade. Now the "Paste as New Image" bug has nipped me.

As with the original post, when I paste from my clipboard (*any* source) into X4 Ultimate, I get the bad offset.

I'm not impressed. My X2 to X3 upgrade was bumpy as heck. I had high hopes that this one would would be smooth.

What do you say Corel? Any hope for a fix soon?

I cannot reproduce your problem.
I own X2 and X4.
Images in my clipboard are copied in X2 or X4 without problem.
Could you be more specific about your steps ? I don't have the Hallmark software.
If you are in X and make Ctrl+C on an image (this puts the image in clipboard) and then return to X4 and make "Paste as new image", do you observe the problem?
Best regards,
Jean-Luc

I just upgraded from PSP x3 to x4. I get the same offset error described several times above when using "Paste as New Image" with content copied from image viewing apps such as IrfanView. Pasting from any of the four browsers I have is normal...no problem.

I can also reproduce the bug.

Pasting from some programs is OK, from others it isn't.
