X4 Graphite Theme

Postby DENedbalek on Sun Sep 11, 2011 3:03 pm

I've just installed PSP X4 and absolutely do not like the graphite theme. Can this be changed? In X3 you could disable it from the View menu, I can't locate any similar option in X4. Thanks for any feedback on this.

A common question. It is not changeable right now. We might get that fixed in a service pack later but right now we are just waiting to see what comes of that.

Fully agree. The graphite theme is naff. No doubt some like it, but why insist on us using it?
What's wrong in having the same option as before to remove it if preferred?

Corel, you need to remember that we're the paying customers. Alienating folk with
something as silly as this is just plain stupid...

Yes indeedy.
The X4 UI colour is really bad and should be sorted (Made user configurable) in the first patch released, I can't fathom why the option to change the UI colour has been removed in this version.
Associated with that are the tool icons which should also be returned to some colour.
The bland (Stylistically crass) icons are... Well it's difficult to see what the icon represents.

I just bought and paid for X4, but I find the graphite theme totally unusable.

I cast my vote STRONGLY for restoring the user option to use the standard background. Working with the graphite theme is very distracting and actually causes discomfort to my eyes. I suspect it's something about the contrast of the menus. In any case, if the option were returned to the user, it could always be set to graphite for "fine tuning" colors where excessive back-light could be distracting.

I guess I'll put my bought-and-paid-for version back on the shelf until it's fixed. X3 is at least usable.

Thanks, in advance, for any quick attention that could be given to making X4 usable....

I really like the X2 graphite look, it is clear and icon size can be changed (is this possible in X4 ?) BUT, the monochrome look in X4 is a backward step. but EVEN WORSE is the changed icons. One excellent feature of PSPP is being able to customise the toolbar and get one click access to frequently used tools via View> customise then dragging icons into position. Suddenly a new set of icons to remember ! WHY?

Because they wanted to "update" the UI. Currently you cannot change the size of the icons though rumor is we will after the first service pack.

I for one like the dark color, but can see it being a plus to turn it off if it's annoying. The grayscale icons are pitiful though. I haven't decided yet if I'll buy the program in large part due to that.

The Graphite Interface is appealing for the first 2 minutes. After that, I have to agree with the medical experts who say that white on black puts more strain & stress on your eyes than black on white. I know my eyes get tired after using the black interface for awhile. Please return the option to change it. I agree the graphite looks much nicer, contemporary, just plain KEWL, but it's not so easy on the eyes; which is more important when you are looking at it for hours each day.
Thanks!

...especially when the icons are also variants of graphite, rather than nice bright colour!!

I agree with the other posts here. If I had known that the graphite theme was the only one available, I would not have upgraded to X4. Too bad I can't get my money back; that might send the message. I cannot conceive why any program designer would think that grey-scale icons are acceptable.

Read Levi's post above. The beta-testers complained LOUDLY to Corel about this, and they do understand the dislike for the current look. So maybe waiting to see what they offer in the service pack could be worthwhile.

I must respectfully echo the request of others here, and ask that you please give us back the option of using the "classic" interface. I find the Graphite interface to be almost entirely unusable, and would simply not have purchased the X4 version had I known it provided no alternative to the "updated" GUI.

As a Paint Shop Pro user since version 4.x, and purchaser of every version from 6.x on, I very much hope that the aforementioned service pack for X4 does indeed give me back the interface with which I can work.
