Hi, just started using the trial of X4 and still exploring however, something that's got me confused and can't find an answer for:

When I'm working in Edit mode, if I have an image open, I can't go across to Manage mode without it wanting to save or close out the image I'm currently working on. I've had issues with the 'organiser' since it's inception and have to admit to preferring the 'browse' as a minimisable window within the normal workspace as it used to be in the Jasc days of psp 9 and below, i.e. I had control over it. However, I compromised on that in X3 by setting the Organiser as a toggle in the top right corner set to thumbnails since I really don't like it cluttering up my workspace. That option, to toggle between the organiser and the workspace is gone..well, sort of gone I guess, changed is a better word. Now we 'should' be able to toggle between 'edit' and 'manage' tabs according to the advertising to achieve the same thing, but of course with the program wanting to close out my multi-layered image first, that's not an option either.

I find it more than annoying to my workflow to have the organiser in the bottom of the workspace and, the necessary 'navigation' menu on the left, even when they are set to roll away when not in use since they will pop open if I even go near them and that really is quite annoying.

So, I guess my question is, why can't I have an image open in 'edit' and successfully move between edit and manage screens?

A couple other things I've found so far... the 'mirror image' command is gone from the Image menu...? Also, when I close out the program and then reopen it, the colour style box and last font used have changed. Likely there are other things along that track that are also resetting themselves but as I said, I'm still experimenting with it.

On the plus side, I'm thrilled that the pixel loss problem was fixed when 'pasting as a new selection'! that was such a bugbear in X3.

Hoping someone has an answer for the edit/manage problem?

Radim et al. Apparently you can also double click the preview thumbnail for a given layer in the layer palette and the properties dialog will come up for that layer. Don't know if this was available in previous versions or not but it's there now.

It's been that way since at least X2. I don't have the older versions on my PC any longer so I can't check them. This is my preferred way of accessing layer styles.

I can do it all the way back to PSP7. Maybe even earlier...

Except that there weren't preview thumbnails in some of the earlier versions. You just double-clicked on the layer itself to access the info. You can still do that, at least as late as X2. You don't have to click on the thumbnail.
Using Paint Shop Pro versions 5, 6, 7, 8, 12, 14

Same in X3 and X4. It has to do with the layer, not the preview. The preview is in addition to the layer, you can turn them off if you don't like them.

I've been an avid user since version 7 and this is the best upgrade since 7. I use PSP every day in my job. Occassionally, I also use Photoshop Extended which had a few more features, but costs 5 times as much to own. There is just one bug that I have discovered in PSP X4: Whenever pasting an image from the clipboard to the workspace, 10 % of the image is tramsposed from the right side to the left, leaving a distored view. I am sure Corel is working to fix this bug. But all in all this version is well worth the upgrade price which is modest compared to most decent photo editing software..

This is the first I've heard of that bug SystemVision38. Doesn't mean Corel hasn't heard of it obviously but I don't experience it and I haven't heard mention of it. So I hope you've reported it instead of assuming they have it well in hand. :D

Yes, exactly like that. I did report it to Corel, but usually takes several reportin g the problem before it gets upgraded priority. Even so, they've cleaned up many problems from X3 and have added enough new gbraphics and functions to make it worth upgrading. For one thing, the program is smaller and uses less resources - substantially less. Disingage the Organizer and it is lightninbg fast. Makes PhotoShop Extended CS5 seem like a bloated elephant. Learning curve is better than PhotoShop and I can train personnel in a fraction of the time to use most of the available elements. I also use Corel Draw X5 since some clients r4equire it, but PaintShop Pro even blows Draw away dollar for dollar. Most uof the criticism of Corel PantShop Pro (any version) that I see here or in other blogs is generally from people who really haven't taken time to learn the program. I dread the day when Corel realizes just what a powerful program they have.

I copy and paste all the time and don't get that. Have you notified Corel about this?

Can I ask where you are copying from? The reason I ask is that I've experienced the same thing but only under very specific circumstances. If I copy and paste any image from say Google images or a message board there is no issue whatsoever. However if I copy and paste from an open image in PSE9, I see exactly what you are seeing. Also, it should be noted that this only happens when going PSE9 to X4. I can copy and paste from PSE9 to X2 or X3 with no issue.

NIK color FX filters are fantastic !! (I use NIK in commercial pro-foto work )
X4 Ultimate pak is a great bargain :D
After install NIK filters, you must load a photo to edit
which will enable the NIK filters to be used (no pix = grey out NIK options).

Following your post I tried copy and paste from several sources to the PSP X4 workspace. Sources included Google, Bing, Photo Shop Extended CS5, Corel Draw X5. I am totally mystified.

Are you seeing the same behavior (with the overlap from the right side of the image) from all sources or only from the Adobe product?
