PSPX2 Problem browse button crash

1st problem I'm using pspx2 and on the toolbars I click on "open" icon and in the window I click on the "Browse" button and pspx2 crashes. Any ideas as to what I can do?

2nd problem is I have no top frame, it is invisiable and can not see the exit/max/min buttons either.

I have done a total uninstall/rebooted and installed from my purchased cd and still have the same 2 problems.

I'm running pre-installed Vista Home Premier/MediaCenter

I don't know why you don't have the top frame to the program. Have you tried resizing your display? The program could also be displaying Maximum, instead of Window sized. Have you tried resizing the window?

I have PSPx2 installed on a laptop that is running Vista HP. I noticed that I have set the DEP (Date Execution Prevention) for PSP, so it must have posed a problem warranting setting that. DEP generally will think that a program may due harm to your system and will prevent the program from running. I don't know if it will correct your problem bu you can try it.

To set DEP in Vista go to Control Panel, then select Performance and Information Tools. From there select Adjust Visual Effects. In the Performance Options window go to the last tab, Data Execution and Prevention.

Now on the DEP tab, go to the bottom and select Add. A browse window will open, browse to the executable file for PI-X3, which should be found in the C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 directory. The specific file would be Corel PaintShop Pro Photo.exe. Select it to add it to the DEP.

If the above does not work you can always remove it from DEP..

You can also try setting the Visual settings to Best Performance. This will free up some resources that Vista hogs with all it's cosmetic crap..

Hello...... I have done many programs with the "DEP" and that does not correct the invisiable top frame. Resizing/max still invisiable. I have done the settings already for performance and does not solve the problem.

PSPX2 when I installed it, it has a update to install and to me this is the problem that causes the top frame to be invisiable and can not get support to answer me.

Yes that DEP can be a pain but it hardly comes up anymore lol I so apperciate your help.

Eactly what your showing 1440x900 32bit ..... my window is not over sized at all, just that the top frame is invisiable and still can click where the exit button should be and psp closes even though nothing is showing but my desktop.

1. Press the [PRTSC] key on your keyboard
2. In Paint Shop Pro - Edit | Paste as new image


3. Save as a GIF image (Resize if necessary)
4. Upload it to the internet - I tend to use http://www.imageshack.us/ or alternatively http://www.freeimagehosting.net/

Then reply to this thread with the link given by the image hosting site.

Is that screenshot from Vista? Vista uses a semi-transparent theme for the Window boarders. However I noticed on mine that the buttons are 3-D. On my XP machine the buttons are very subdued and hard to see.

I've tried to find a setting within Vista that would cause the problem with PSP not showing the buttons, however can not. I've tried reinstalling to see if I could replicate this, however PSP installs and displays as it should.

Previously you stated that you felt the update caused the problem. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling without installing the update? Do you still have the problem without the update installed?

Found problem pf displaying 864 lines instead of 900 described on a Linux forum. 1440x900 is a somewhat unusual screen size and may be not as well supported as others.

My monitor uses that resolution too, and I'm not having any issues with the top frame not being visible, or the absence of buttons. I believe the OP is running WinXP, not Linux.

Sorry, but I did not search far enough to find exactly the same problem described for Windows XP. All that I know is that I paid $50 - $100 more to NOT get 1440x900 screen resolution when I bought a 19 inch LCD monitor for my desktop computer.

I just had to replace my factory monitor, and HP Pavilion f1703. I purchased a Dell SE 198WFP. It uses that 1440 x 900 resolution, and I've not had any problems with it yet. I also am using an Nvidia GeForce 6200 card. I'm not using the analog video connection though. My monitor came with an HDMI cable for digital. I think it appears to be much better then the analog.

I've noticed that in PSPX2 there is a "Theme" setting found on the View menu, called Graphite. You might try unchecking that option to see if that produces any different results for you. With it unchecked PSP will then display in the default theme. There may be a problem with that aspect of the program installing on your system. FWIW, the XP screenshot above is with the Graphite Theme. Disabling it gives more of a traditional windows appearance.

Sorry if I neglected to state that I have Vista Home Premier "Media Center" w/22" wide monitor. When first installing pspx2 the top frame and buttons are visible but when I install their update my top frame and buttons become invisiible but still can click where the exit buttons should be showing and pspx2 will close lol....... Tried turning the workspace Graphite off and still invisible...... I think its crappy that Corel will not answer to help or even acknowledge the problem. I truly appreciate all the suggestions and help you all have done, if I ever find a solution I'll be glad to let you all know ..... Oh and I have changed my resolution to the optimized 1680 and still invisible.

I see this problem quite often at my workplace where we have several computers in use 24/7 and operated by shift workers. Different workers have different preferences for their screen size and desktop layout - no doubt some have sharper eyes than others.

What happens is that an operator has a few programs open on the desktop and then alters the screen resolution "to make things bigger on the screen"
in other words the screen might be 1024x768 and the worker alters it to 800x600. The programs that were open at the time do not always resize themselves with the rest of the system and you end up with the top left corner &/or top right corner off the monitor - and of course you can't drag it back because the title bar is off screen!

The cure is to resize the windows desktop to a higher value, close the program (which should now be fully visible) and then you can resize the desktop to your preferred value.

If you are still having problems then most programs store the programs x/y locations (top left) in the Windows Registry.
