X7 and X9 x64 version hangs after a while

Postby BeeGeeDee » Thu Jul 06, 2017 10:21 am

I've been a long time user of Paint Shop Pro (back to v4) and since the x64 version was introduced I used it at first but it hangs

I've just recently upgraded to X9 from X7 and thought I'd give the 64-bit version a go again and sure enough it hangs. I appreciate this is probably a configuration issue but I have no control as it's a corporate build of Windows 7 but saying that, I've seen the same happen on my Home PC, also X9 Ultimate and Windows 10 Pro and a fairly clean install (PSP/office and a couple of other packages I use on occasion)

It seems to happen if lock the PC and come back or often just minimise the software - I tend to leave it open and running.

I'm currently using the 32-bit version which doesn't have hang issues.

My use is fairly basic - at the office taking screenshots and editing them for user manuals and development notes and some basic photo editing at home.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Similar issue. X9 x64 doesn't work on Win7. I have a problem with ALL Corel 64 bit programs that try to write a jpeg! I can write TIFFs, PDFs and a number of other formats, but JPG only works in 32bit version of PSP9.
I contacted support a few days ago and thus far they have no good suggestions.
I reloaded PSPx9 last night. Nothing much changed.
I tried updating the drivers for Wacom tablet, no joy.
My program stopped working around the beginning of July 2017, which hints that a security bug was fixed by MicroSoft, leading to this issue, but no one has come forward to confirm this.
I've been using this program since the early shareware days of Windows3.1, I am hoping for a fix to this issue soon.

That is very possible that it's relating to a security bug. I had an older version if VideoStudio pro (X4 I think it was) and it worked fine on W10 but not W7. Saying that, VideoStudio pro X9.5 works fine as 64-bit edition for me and the issue I see is specific to Paint Shop Pro. TBH 32-bit works fine for what I need most of the time.

This could be the culprit- It screwed up Corel Painter and DxO Optics Pro.
I have held off on installing the .NET Framework 4.7 from Windows Update recently on my Windows 7 as a few years ago another .Net update screwed up Corel Painter & DxO Optics Pro and I was concerned that this one would too. If you got .Net Framework 4.7 on the last Windows update, uninstall it.
Find the .NET Framework 4.7 in your Programs list and uninstall it and if need be do a System Restore to the point prior to the update as well.
I'd report this to Corel as well- they won't patch prior versions because they are coming out with Painter 2018 though.
Corel Painter users who have uninstalled it report their program is working normally again.

I can't uninstall .NET unfortunately. I'm a software developer most of the time and so need .NET 4.6/7 installed to do my job and I can't risk messing that up as I run windows Services written using .NET. I wouldn't think that would mess stuff up however as newer versions are generally backwards compatible.

Some reported that this July 2017 Preview of the Quality Rollups for .Net Framework all versions fixed the troubles cause by 4.7. Worth a try.

Thanks. I will when it goes to final release. Our corporate IT are a bit funny when we use preview patches...released patches have to be audited too :(
